sondredh
Hi, i have an acer aspire 6920g laptop with a geforce 9500m gs (oc: 700,450,1400 - stock:475,400,950), an intel t8100 @ 2,1 ghz and 3gb of RAM. One of my RAM sticks were defect so i am currently only running with one (2GB). In GTA IV i get very bad fps even with the lowest settings (800x600, all on low, viewdistance etc. to 1) and it doesn't affect the framerate if i turn the viewdistance up to eg. 50, the fps stays the same, and there is nearly no difference between the rendering settings i can play with high and still get about the same fps. I've tried many tweak guides but none of them has helped. I monitored my RAM usage and saw that it was on about 95~96% usage during the game. Is my problem that i have too little RAM? I havent tried the game with 3gb but when i get my new RAM stick will the performance of the game increase? Thanks=) Edited December 26, 2008 by sondredh
Tonybane
hi there, I have the same problem with my acer aspire 8920g and searched a bit on the internet but the only thing i could found was that it is some kind of bug in the game itself. But there will be a patch witch will fix a lot. The same is for the new need for speed: 'Undercover' The releas this games to soon I think. I hope my english was good enough and sorry that I couldn't help you;) Cya and merry cristmas to all:D
Bades
Basically both of these games are poorly optimized for the PC. So don't worry about getting crap performance because even people with supercomputers are struggling a bit.
sondredh
But has it anything to do with my RAM?
Galdere
You dont say what you consider to be "very bad fps", but my guess is that your hardware is just inadequate for normal play on GTA4, as it is for many people. A gig of extra RAM will make little difference. Could be your card is overclocked too much and the heat is making the it run at a lower rate. Could be powermizer or a number of things. Why does your sig say 4gb RAM when you had 3 and now 2? But to answer your questions: "Is my problem that i have too little RAM? I havent tried the game with 3gb but when i get my new RAM stick will the performance of the game increase?" I can almost certaintly say it isnt and it won't. sssniper
Agree with Galdere for 100%, the extra 1 Gb will hardly help you. First of all, i would advise you to optimise the game itself, if you haven`t done it already, with commandline.txt and replacing the shaders, it helps a little. Look through www.gtaforums.com for the mentioned tweaks. Also i use CPU Control to run the process on both cores. I use Dox`s Optimised 180.84 playing GTA IV on 1280 x 1024 with these graphic settings: medium - medium - 30 -25-25 -1 and i get about 18-20 FPS average, i think it`s not very bad for the laptop. http://forums.laptopvideo2go.com/index....showtopic=22225
sondredh
By "very bad fps" i mean 10-20 fps on 800x600, texture: low, render: low, viewdistance 1, detail distance 1, car density 1, shadow 0. And it's not my gpu overheating i've tried it with no OC and i still get same problem. The drivers i'm using is the DOX 180.84 drivers. I can run other new games great: cod:waw - everything on high 1366x768 about 30-40 fps, Fallout 3 on ultra no AA no AF 1366x768 40-50 fps, Dead space all maxed out no aa no af ~40 fps. And there's NO difference in performance if i turn the viewdistanc up to eg. 50, and only about ~2 fps loss if i put the render setting to high. I've also tried to replace the shaders and doing the commandline tweaks but there was nearly no difference in fps.
