kaka1412
I've read a lot thread in this forum ( may be not much enough ) and I can't find if someone has the same problem with me . My laptop is Toshiba Satellite X205-SLI 2 with cpu : T8100 2.1GHZ *2 ram : 2GB HDD : 320GB VGA : two 8600M GT run in SLI mode with 512 MB GDDR3 in total, each card has 256MB GDDR3 The problem is the 512 MB ram of two 8600M GT cards. In window and games, it just shows that there is 256 dedicated memory , 767 MB shared of ram ,so when I play GTA 4 , there is just 238MB of VGA for the games , why is it not 512MB ? Can someone tell me how to help window and games recognize all 512MB of 2 graphic cards , for example GTA 4 so that the games can take full advantage of that all 512MB from 2 cards. Bill
If each card is a 256MB card that is all you can use in SLI.
kaka1412
yeah , I already used them in SLI mode , the point is with 2 cards , I have totally 512MB , but in GTA 4 , It shows that there are just 238 or 243 mb for the game to run , why is it not 512mb or 500mb ? Did you read what I said? Does each one of your cards have 512MB or only 256MB? GTA also has a texture setting thing that can be changed to 256, 512MB, etc. You should look into the texture setting hack guides for the game about that info. Bill
In SLI mode your games can only use 256MB of RAM for textures and stuff. The RAM is basically mirrored on each graphics card in SLI. You should do your research before buying an SLI system. As for GTA there are some topics around here and other places. We have a search function or you can use google to search the forums. (its better lol) I don't have GTA IV on PC yet so I can't help you much. However I think you can lower the game's texture usage or something to get better performance. But if you want 512MB texture usage in a game you will need 512MB graphics cards.
Guest nismo91
hi. i am new but have not registered yet. i am playing GTA IV on my acer 5930G now. it even shows i have 1736MB in options. to do this: simply = open notepad write: -norestrictions -availablevidmem 4.0 save as commandline.txt u must save it at C:\Program Files\Rockstar Games\GTA IV i ask u to put 4.0 so that 256x4.0 = 1.0gb so that in GTA it will write 1.0 available video memory. i hope it works with your GTA IV version. Cheers!

Guest nismo91
:) the week i got GTA IV installed, i googled for whatever tricks and mods available for the game. one night i found this trick, and actually there is more u can do beside norestrictions and change video memory. Click here for more i suppose two 8600M GT SLI is faster than my 9600M GT hence i think u could play at good settings. and regarding of RAM, its definitely used. why? i have a cousin with a GO 7600 128MB, i tried this hack, but couldnt even play the game because of RESC10 error (out of vid mem) despite he has 384MB total vram (with turbocache). while he can even run a crysis warhead. i myself are running a 9600M GT 512MB DDR3 (1789MB TurboCache) and i've tried running GTA IV at highest setting possible, it shows about 1.5GB , high - highest - 100 - 100 - 100 - 12. of course, it lags at 15fps. but surprisingly it does not end up shows = GTA IV FATAL ERROR RESC10 (Out of Video Memory). Therefore i guess, u should be safe running GTA IV with the hack. :)
