Codyksp
Since I've been using this driver my older games like, Need For Speed Most Wanted and Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory have been crashing. The screen goes black and the sound gets stuck on a repeat, I think it's the driver but I'm not sure. I can't do a thing and have to shut the PC off when it happens. Exostenza
I woke up this morning and booted up my computer and there was this strange text file on my desktop that was named Ari-PC (the name of my pc). I opened it up and it read ""DOX" is not making anymore modded drivers... go cry somewhere else" - Dox DOX my computers vitals are in trouble and they need help! I don't know anyone else better for the job... even my computer asked for you by name. Will you help our computers to feel better? Are you out there? Is anybody out there? Seriously stuff like this annoys me, the more people keep bothering me about making drivers on my break the least inclined I am to keep making them, be thankful for something free done on my own free time or go elsewhere and pay for it - Dox
Guest REB
Just how nessesary is the nvidia display driver service? It slows down my shutdown and makes it flicker and stuff.. I see that dox describes it as a "DO NOT DISABLE!" but all my color settings and 3d ingame settings works perfectly fine without it? Ive never really understood this service, cant someone please explain it to me? thanks
Dox
they work fine until you realise that when you change settings in them they dont actually change anything! For example when you change texture filtering to High Performance, the box changes but it doesnt change to that in game. Also stuff like forcing AA and Af on in the nvidia control panel does not work. Also I've noticed as well that in the adjust desktop color settings page, when you move the sliders, they reset to default in each reboot without the service disabled. You could use "Nhancer", in vista it also requires its own service which takes up much more resources than nvidia's own, much more.
Guest REB
Everything you just said is what i suspected to happen but it didnt? Color settings apply and so does everything else.. I can tell because i have vsync forced off and 16x at my Counterstrike 1.6.i dont know.. maybe because i set the settings before i disabled the service? Dox
yes thats why. Now change your settings, say force v-sync on.

frank604
To Valdez: Not enough information. 1. Does it occur with stock nvidia drivers? 2. Are you overclocking anything? 3. Clean driver install? 4. Can you hear your fans being used? 5. What software are you running in the background? Fraps? Antivirus? etc 6. Have you tried any other games? Does it happen with the other games as well? 7. Have you tried going to the riddick forums to see if this is a common problem across multiple pcs? (I've googled, and it seems some users are experiencing the same problem and have resolved it in a patch or driver update, or by deleting old savegames like in this forum here good luck! Sevikins
First off, I just want to give a big thanks to Dox for doing a great service for everyone out there utilizing these drivers. Secondly, I'd just like to say that I am a huge newb in this. I know not much about video cards and even less with drivers and driver downloads, as I have never had to update a driver for any video card of mine (I was never a huge gamer, until I started TF2). In any case, I'm now looking into upgrading my GeForce GO 7400 (build 174.31 from the Dell site) to something much more recent/better. I read somewhere in these forums that GeForce & Forceware are one and essentially the same thing? Correct me if I'm wrong, please. However I'm not very versed with the different names and versions out there, so I'm wondering would this work with my XPS M1210? I'm also running Windows XP (32bits) SP2. And if this is posted in the wrong subforum/topic, please point me in the correct direction. Very huge thanks in advance! frank604
Welcome to the boards sevikins. Sure, as dox's drivers support nvidia 6-GT100 series gpus, your geforce 7400 should be supported. Just go to the first page of this thread, and download the driver that matches your os. In your case, it would be the windows xp link here. Sevikins
Thanks so much for your prompt reply Frank! Quick question about Dox's releases. Do I have to download any other file other than the one you just linked me to? Or does it need a corresponding modded INF file like Pieter's releases? I read all the FAQs but I just want to make sure I didn't miss anything. Thanks!
frank604
Nope, just download the exe and run it. You don't need any other files. The download itself is stand alone. What the exe does is extract the files, then it runs setup. It will ask what type of installation you want. Quality, balanced, performance. I usually choose balanced. But before you install, I would clean out your old drivers. Download driver sweeper here or any other driver cleaning software. You have to do a clean install on video drivers. This is very important. If you fail to do so, you may end up with problems. There are many guides in doing a clean install, one such guide is here. Sevikins
Thank you Frank! I did a clean install, and chose balance as well. By the way, not to knock anything, but has anyone ever experienced a slight flickering problem for their monitors? I did a full clean install as per the instructions from Frank's link... but somehow after an hour into trying this new driver, I'm still experiencing the flickering I saw when I installed the new beta driver from nvidia's site a week ago. I know this isn't normal, is there any reason that it would just start flickering? Thanks for any help/advice. ----- ETA: I also have one stupid little question. I used Driver Sweeper to clean remaining files after I uninstalled the old driver with add/remove. Thing is, with the option for Nvidia, there are two boxes, one for Nvidia - Chipset, and below Nvidia - Display. Should I have checked both the Nvidia options? I only checked the option "Nvidia - Display". Should I have checked for "Nvidia - Chipset" as well? Maybe that's why it's being wonky because it's not a clean, clean install? :) Edited March 21, 2009 by Sevikins

frank604
Sevikins. So you are saying that the flickering issue occurred approx last week with the nvidia drivers? Also that this same issue is reoccuring 1 hour after installing the dox drivers? 1. I would just double check the driver versions in your device manager to make sure all of the video drivers are the same version # 2. Then I would try to change the hz on your laptop display (maybe 59 hz instead of 60, or vice versa) 3. Try testing other resolutions instead of your 1280x720 4. Google it? Maybe someone else has similar problems. I'm not sure what the cause of the issue can be, but google is omniscience. good luck. ps. i run driver sweeper twice, just to make sure it has deleted the files. Yeah, I'm not sure why it happens, but it did. I ended up trying another Dox driver (v.181.22) which that flickering also occurred. I checked my monitor to make sure there wasn't any loose connectors, and there wasn't. It made sense, as after I installed any driver different from the one that came in the Dell site (build 147.31), that flickering would occur. I've given up somewhat for now, and downloaded another driver (179.24). It was a shame, I really did like Dox's driver. My GPU temperature was low, and even in playing a game, it never broke 80C, which was pretty damn good. :) Thanks anyway for your help, and Dox for creating these great drivers, even if it didn't work for me. Guest Josh
I have a slight problem with the driver - after installing it, files changes don't appear immediately, until I hit F5 to refresh. For example, changes to the filename, deletion, etc. do not get shown on the screen. It is quite exasperating to hit F5 all the time. Can anyone help? Thanks! Guest redsoxist
Am I the only one with sleep problems for this driver? After I clean installed it, I keep getting the message "The device driver for the 'Default Monitor' device is preventing the machine from entering standby. Please close all applications and try again. If the problem persists, you may need to update this driver." This never happened when I had the 180.84.1 driver installed nor when I upgraded to Dox's 185.20 Could this possibly be the fault of the built-in laptop monitor or is it the driver?
