Hidavi
Custom cooling modifications Overclocking DDR3 being faster than DDR2, regardless of the lower RAM Windows 7 being faster than Windows Vista
Au_Xtr3me
XPS m1530 <---- Specs there OC'ed: 5246 3dMarks (06) --- 1280x1024 (and default settings) Core: 625 Shader: 1250 Memory: 865 (1730) Stock: 4487 3dMarks " " As Hidavi said, GDDR3 really pushes the edge over DDR2 video ram. The default RAM clock rate on 8600m GTs with GDDR3 is about 800 (1600) MHz compared to 400 (800) Mhz for DDR2. As for operating system, that only counts for maybe 50 to 100 3dmarks at max. Cooling makes a big difference when you're trying to squeeze out extra performance. At Kudas: The results that you are getting on your setup are already very good for a 8600 w DDR2 and a slower processor. I've seen a lot of benchmark results where users (DDR2) could not get over 3400 3dmarks (default everything) without OC. PS The fastest 8600m GT laptop is the Alienware m15x, which scores about 4600 (no OC)

Kudas
Hi thanks you all for the answers Do you think if i intall the windows 7 i will win more performance and more points?
Hidavi
You'll get maybe like 100 points more like that other poster said. Overall, W7 is just better than Vista so its worth an upgrade regardless. I installed it on my girlfriends Aspire One and she said it now runs faster than it did with XP. Hidavi
Forgot to mention that I'm on stock 182.46 drivers. They're the fastest I've ever tried, and I've tried a lot.
MiZore
4577 Running DOX 182.46 and overclocked like hell. also using a tweak that makes the computer think it's a 8600 GTS desktop card. I agree with Hidavi that 182.46 is the best drivers yet. And I've also tried a lot. (though I use DOX optimized) Edited April 5, 2009 by MiZore

Guest Guess
yes, I saw you got IFL90 =) I'm using cooling pad Zalman ZM-NC2000, it's really useful. I used to get well over 80 C, now after and hour playing GTAIV it reaches 73-75 C. :) The max temps I wrote here are the temps that the gpu and cpu reach DURING the 3dmark06 tests. I forgot to menshion that my native res. is 1280x800 :)
MiZore
Well I'm not exactly sure what it does technicaly. But it alows me to get higher clocks without running unstable. Also my temperatures is around ?CPU IDLE: 22-25C Working: 50-53C (Though I have a program that always forces the fan to maximum, thereof the low idle temps.) ?GPU IDLE: 35C Working: 50-55C I don't use a cooling pad but I have build myself a raiser in wood that raises the fan intake about 7 centimeters above the talbe. Kudas
thanks again for the answers I thought I had a good setup because i read this ("8600m gt" 3DMark 06: min: 2671, avg: 3347, max: 4434 Points) and i think "wow im over the average" xD but you are a thousand times better than mine. i wish to do the tweak that makes the computer think it's a 8600 GTS desktop card. can you explain me how to dO? :)

MiZore
?First you need Riva Tuner, Download ?Then when you have installed it. press the "Low-level system settings". ?Then switch to the tab "NVstrap Driver" Press the install button in the bottom of the window. (even though for me it stands Unistall since I've already installed it) ?Then go down to and go down to "PCI deviceID Settings" ?On the "Graphics adapter Identification" dropdown menu Select Custom. ?Then mark the "Use ROM straps for PCI DeviceID programming" box. ?Then select "0400 (Nvidia GeForce 8600 GTS)" ?When all steps done press Apply and reboot your computer. I'm running at (Core/Shader/Memory) 710/1425/510mhz to be able to run at that high clocks you need to allow higher clocks. ?Go to power user. (Click okay to the popup warning) ?Select "Rivatuner \ Overclocking \ Global" ?Then doubleclick on "MaxClockLimit" and write 2000. It should activate itself.(A yellow lighbulb should be next to it) otherwise rightclick on "MaxClockLimit" and press the yellow lighbulb. Phew, that took some time to write and make. Make sure that when you get a nice girlfriend send her over to thank me. Edited April 7, 2009 by MiZore

Hidavi
Also, what program do you use to control your fan? I would love to run mine on max all the time!
Hidavi
Anyway, I tried your mod and got 4985 in 3DMark06. Not bad, though I think it could be better. The card seems to run cooler too, oddly...

MiZore
What laptops does that work for? I can't really give a straight answer since I have only tried it on my computer. (Inspiron 1720 Dell) But I think it works for most computers with 8600m GT. Gratz to breaking the 5k. Your had GDDR3 Right? The program I use to force my fan to max is called I8kfanGUI but I'm not sure it works for other brands than dell but give it a try anway.
