Guest XPS 1710 Owner
My XPS 1710 is very hot. I have following temperatures Idle CPU 55C GPU 65C Load CPU 70C GPU 95C (WHAT) I tried to vacum alle airholes, vents. It helped a little bit, but i still have high temperature. Iam using i8kfangui31 to monitor, and if i use the "force fans to high speed" i get must lower idle temperatures, but thats not what it supposed to run with. I can live with the idle temperature, but whem iam gaming i get up to 90C when i use the "force fans to high speed". It is time to disassemble my XPS and check the inside? I got the machine for about 2 years, but the vents og cooler looks fine, so i suspect the heatpipes, plates etc? Windows Vista 32bit Windows 7 32bit (both the same temp) All updates installed and iam using the original driver 179.48 because the new laptopdrivers from nvidia got down throttles, and one single crash in 4-6hours of gaming (normally, i normally don't get crashed). Hope you guys can help!
Peter Dackers
A colleague of mine has the same laptop and he got the same issues regarding heat and a friend of mine who has the 1730 model also experiences extreme temps. Both did everything they could, from cleaning the vents holes to speed fan etc, but it still runs too hot. Maybe it's a model specific issue? Did these temps start to rise over the last months or did you just notice them?

Did these temps start to rise over the last months or did you just notice them? I vacummet the backside, because i found out it also had ventholes there from another thread on nVision. Cool site btw. Now my temperature lowed from 90-95 load to 70-75 load on standard fan settings (stock controlled). So i guess i solved the problem. My idle temp 39-44 CPU 52 CPU And when i chose "force high speed fan", i even get lower. Nice. Now it seems normal again. I just noticed this because the computer crashed, and after boot the XPS BIOS notifies me that the computer got to hot and had to shut down. Also when i used the newest laptop driver from nvidia i got even higher temperatures. Anyone who got a nice recommended dox driver for the 1710 with 7950GTX? Laney
Hey mate,18kfang has a +8 degree difference to your real temp as I recall. Try GPU-Z or CPU-Z at the same time and see if their is a difference between the two displayed temps. If this is the case, your GPU is running about 87 under load which is safeĀ®. My XPS1710 go 7900 gs under load is about 83 (OC 500/600) and idles about 60, not much difference there.
