Intel GMA Drivers

After a painfully slow download from ASRock's server, I finally got to install 2669. I regret to inform that 2669, like 2656, still lack options. Also, the Multimedia tab has a preview checkbox that opens a small window with 3 selectable images to allow for fine tuning settings, and both 2656 and 2669 have broken that option, as ticking the box does nothing.

I've done a recent search of the Intel HD Graphics drivers yesterday on the Intel web site and the v8.15.10.2656 drivers are officially available from the Intel download site (released 2/22/2012).

Vista/Win7 driver v15.26.5.64.2656 x64bit

Vista/Win7 driver v15.26.5.2656 x32bit

Those drivers certainly didn't work on my aunt's Dell Inspiron 580 desktop machine as its Intel HD Graphics hardware had

the following hardware device id number:

PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_0042&SUBSYS_04381028&REV_18

looks like it's back to using Intel driver build 2622 for that dell 580 machine.

my dell inspiron 620 computer can handle the newer Intel drivers (such as 2656), for now. I'll skip build 2669 and wait for newer builds to be produced.

Thanks for the hint - I've updated my post accordingly.

PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_0042 - That's a 1st generation Core ix processor ("Arrandale"). They are not supported by 2653, 2656 or 2669 driver builds.

Currently 8.15.10.2622 is the newest release supporting these processors.

Hey guys,

Thanks erp-ster7n for the reply. Unfortunately I have been unable to get any of the .exe files to install. After opening them and preparing them an error message appears saying that they are not fit for my device and to find an update from the manufacturer (the latest of which was released in 2009).

I tried downloading the one that Andi directed me to and using the manual method to install it, but every time it still says that the latest update is already installed and I can't go any further. Even when I uninstall using this method:

http://imgur.com/HSLQf

I was unable to install the driver. If I checked the box and selected OK and then restarted, the laptop would return in what seemed like a lower resolution (everything was larger) and I was unable to install any kind of driver update at all - there was nothing to update because there was nothing. If i left the box UNchecked and hit OK the same thing would happen upon restart (a lower resolution, or whatever) but I was able to attempt to "update driver." This still proved fruitless however, as it still told me that the most updated driver was already installed.

Can anyone help me?

Thank you so much,

Derek

...

Try the following:

1) Download the driver (.zip File from Post 54) and extract it to a folder on your hard disk

2) Bring up Windows Device Manager, right-click your Intel graphics adaptor, select Update drivers...

3) Select manual method

4) In the "Update device drivers" dialog that appears, choose the Option "Select from a list of device drivers on this computer":

upd1.png

5) In the next dialog, uncheck "Show compatible hardware" and click on "Have disk..." button:

upd2.png

6) In the next dialog click on "Browse..." button, and browse to the directory where you have extracted the driver. Browse to sub-directory Graphics, and select the .inf-File (igdlh64.inf for 64-Bit or igdlh.inf for 32-Bit). Click on "Open".:

upd3.png

7) Back in the "Installation from disk" dialog (where now your selected path appears), click OK:

upd4.png

8) In the next dialog select the correct hardware (in your case it should be the first "Intel® HD Graphics" entry) and click "Next".

9) Ignore any warnings about "possible incompatible hardware" and let the driver installation finish.

10) Reboot your machine.

Andi

Andi_84,

I don't know how to find the words to thank you enough. Seriously, you have done such an incredible service for me. I've been stuck in a rut for months, my laptop hasn't been able to run anything. The instructions that you gave me were incredibly easy to follow and I can't thank you enough for taking the time just to help me. Thank you, thank you, thank you so much.

that's good to know, andy.

Intel has just pulled the 8.15.10.2696 drivers off their web site - download links pointing to Intel no longer work (doh!). not sure how long the 8.15.10.2712 drivers will remain available on the Intel download site since they're still password protected.

guess we'll wait for new ones (official or not) that are permanent and no longer password protected

the latest official Intel graphics drivers that aren't password protected for win7 are 8.15.10.2656 (now dated 4/5/2012).

I've also seen Intel HD Graphics drivers v9.17.10.x mentioned on the Windows Update Catalog site made specifically for Windows 8 Consumer Preview. only ones I found there so far are 9.17.10.2661 dated 2/22/2012. this one supports the following hardware device ids:

pci\ven_8086&dev_0102
pci\ven_8086&dev_0106
pci\ven_8086&dev_010a
pci\ven_8086&dev_0112
pci\ven_8086&dev_0116
pci\ven_8086&dev_0122
pci\ven_8086&dev_0126

these 6.14.10.5400 drivers are also available from the ASRock download site (courtesy of the Station Drivers site).

Isn't 2559 an Asus OEM? I've used most drivers since 2509 up to 2696, excluding 2559. I wasn't particularly eager to go back to releases prior to 26xx due to a rather noticeable performance improvement from 26xx onwards.

About vertex processing, it's of my understanding that Intel drivers are now doing it automatically, but honestly I find that a wrong decision since some 3D apps don't handle some of the 3 available options that well. Luckily I can still use a custom tool made for i945/965 chipsets.

All drivers tested were x64.

Acer OEM Driver Ver=03/26/2012,8.15.10.2712 (64bit only)

You must remove or change SUBSYS ID in kit44059.inf to install this driver on other manufacturers' rigs.

thanks, Stefan. It looks like the Acer Aspire S3-391 laptop uses the build 2712 driver.

UPDATE (4/23/2012): the Acer OEM Intel HD Graphics 8.15.10.2712 driver does NOT support the following hardware device IDs:

PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_0102

PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_010A

any Intel HD graphics hardware using device ids beginning with 0102 or 010A may not work with that 2712 driver from Acer because they've

been excluded from the INF file.

no, tribaljet. you haven't been paying close attention. The build 2559 driver I linked to in my previous post was directly from Intel - those are generic drivers and not OEM specific (though Lenovo has an OEM specific 2559 Intel drivers for their ThinkCentre M70z & M90z machines and Gigabyte also has an OEM specific 2559 x64 driver for their Q2432m notebook computer)
