AR928X and lag

Guest rob

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I'm using Windows 7 64bit with an AR928X. I get lag every 30 seconds. For example, when I ping google.ca I get request timed out or very high ping every 30 seconds, or when gaming online my game will pause for 2-3 seconds and my lagometer shows 999. I've tried it on 3 different networks, clean windows installation (tried Vista 32 and 64 bit) and sitting next to the router. Router has updated firmware. My Windows has most recent drivers/security updates. I've also tried your modded drivers on Vista 32 and 64 but they don't fix the problem. I've tried installing the modded drivers on Windows 7 and they don't work (apparently unsigned drivers don't work according to the modded thread).

I've also tried vista anti-lag and WLANoptimizer, neither work.

Did ASUS just screw me over with a POS wireless card?

Thanks,

Rob

So I reformatted and installed Win7 32bit, installed the most recent modded drivers, turned off background scan in driver properties, even tried WLAN Optimizer, and it still lags.

This is what I see when I ping my router

Router's updated to most recent firmware, maybe 20 feet away.

I honestly feel like I got screwed over by the amount I paid for this laptop.

Honestly, considering all you've tried, I'd get a replacement from ASUS considering their great warranty.

hey Victor,

if you still read this for some reason,

i temporarily solved the problem by using my roommate's linksys WUSB600N adapter instead of the built-in AR928X.

however, i recently checked www.atheros.cz and they have new drivers (9.2.0.113) for AR928X and they work perfect now. i'm using windows 7 32 bit still by the way, I'll reformat to 64bit after christmas and hopefully the new drivers work for 64 bit too

i also tried the newest modded drivers in the forums, i think they work, but i didn't test them out long enough

actually i take it back, the new windows drivers didn't fix my problem with my netgear router but did with a linksys one, on windows that is...

on ubuntu everything works beautifully with default ath9k drivers...
