Driver 295.18 vs driver 290.36 in Heaven Benchmark 2.5

Driver 295.18 has a new method of antialiasing called FXAA which I used to test against

driver 290.36 which was using the regular 4x AA set in Heaven Benchmark menu.

The FXAA looks better than the regular 4x AA.

Scores, MinFPS, AvgFPS, MaxFPS

2620, 62.1, 104.0, 197.6 --- driver 295.18 with FXAA

2286, 47.7, 90.8, 184.3 --- driver 290.36 with 4x AA

Test setup:

Win7 64-bit, i7 975 cpu @4.22GHz, GTX 580SC

Display: 1080p, 1920 x 1080 (native), 60 Hz, 32-bit color

Heaven menu: 16x Anisotropic, Ambient Occlusion off

NVidia Control Panel: Texture Filtering Quality High Quality, Vsync Off

Thanks.

Unfortunately, this driver crashes in hardware-accelerated Internet browsers (I use Opera and verified with Internet Explorer).

I reverted back to 290.36, which works flawlessly.

Just to verify, I installed this driver in safe mode without using the modified ini (I've got an ASUS, which was recognized by the original INI), which turned out the same...

how do you tell games to use fxaa instead of normal AA?

In the Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 Advanced Video menu I turned AA off, then I went into NVidia Control Panel/3D Settings/Program Settings for the game MW3 multiplayer and set the following as per the screenshot here. Notice the NVidia description in the lower part of the screenshot.

See screenshot.

I've never gotten any problems with any NVidia drivers. I use IE 9. I did not set the FXAA globally, only for the game Modern Warfare 3.

Cool, yeah, the default inf file listed multiple NVidia laptop display processors. The modified inf file made it possible to desktop PC's to use the driver too.

Okay, so... FXAA is nice in theory and all, but suffice to say, it doesn't seem to like a few games.

tl;dr YOU CANNOT GRASP THE TRUE FORM OF FXAA'S ATTACK

Yeah, they're mentioning some over on guru3d.com forums. I don't really do lots of games though. I'm sticking with CoD Modern Warfare 3 and CoD Black Ops and the FXAA works with those 2. I would not recommend setting the FXAA to be on in the Global tab, just the Program Settings tab for the games where you know it works.

Saints Row TT crash not work after update 295.18 any fix?

CHuck, while on driver 290.36 I used NVidia Inspector to take screenshots of how the game profile looked.

Then, after installing driver 295.18 I used NVidia Inspector to manually create the same game profile settings that were there with driver 290.36.

That trick seems to have worked.

I imagine you could do the same thing with your other game.

I think it is also possible to export and import game profiles with NVidia Inspector but what I did worked.

I'm having issues getting my drivers to run, I can install them but even in test mode Windows 7 won't start the drivers when the system starts. Any fix? I've tried to start using f8 to turn of the signature detection or whatever it's called but no luck there. Using an Aus ul50vt with g210m hybrid graphics (intel gen 4 is the integrated and I got it's official driver to install, but it's disabled right now).

Did you use the modified inf file or no? Laptop manufacturers often put some proprietary software in their machines to enforce certain drivers I think.

not that great for my Dell xps 15 (Gt 420m). Tried both the mod inf and asus inf. optimus seems to be broken for me in the asus inf and in the mod inf, it seems like my video card detected a second monitor even tho its the intel graphics card connected to my laptop screen. i can like run my mouse off the screen as if there were a second monitor. went back to 285.79 and everythings fine.

I used the .inf file that's at the top of this forum thread. Windows says that it's unsigned and I tried to sign it with Dseo13b but it still pops up as unsigned.

Find the way to make your laptop accept and use unsigned drivers.

I just told you I tried, and Windows 7 will not run accept unsigned drivers.

My Windows 7 is able to accept and run unsigned drivers.

There is some setting somewhere in Win7 that has made your Win7 different from my Win7.

This driver sucks even on my Asus, the browser problem confirmed on IE9 plus custom modes don't work and default mode list is very restricted. That concerns the original inf - didn't bother to test the modified as the performance is quite bad after all.

This driver was not doing CoD MW3 well until I made a Program Profile for it that was like the Program Profile in driver 290.36.

My IE9 is working fine but I don't know what the plus custom modes are but I'd see how driver 290.36 does the profile for them then make same program profile for driver 295.18 if it were me.

I had probably the most horrid experience yet!

Upon installation of the drivers, instead of being a GFX device... it turned into a SYSTEM device!!!!

See the pic below!:

*The details matter, and its probably the reason why, but with the MODIFIED INF: Windows 8 x64, nVidia GTS 250... but since others have reported driver "failure" upon restart, I am curious to know if they are having the same issue that I am!

EDIT: yes, that (!) device is the GFX card! only the driver/device info from the INF must be totally incorrect or something... once I uninstall the device, its then rediscovered as a VGA adapter and proceeds to install with the WDDM drivers... epic s*** yes?

I can't believe how incredibly smooth Skyrim (with plenty of mods to beef up the textures/models/distances/shaders/etc) is on these drivers. I hope there is eventually a stable 295 series. GTX 460 (1G 256bit mem, 830core/4000effective) on i7 (3.3/3.9) here, and playing far beyond the maximum settings with this driver, at always 60fps.

Going back to 290 to get some work done. :/

Perhaps teething problems? I had problems when creating custom modes so I dumped these quickly.
