WINDOWS 8 - EASIER NAVIGATION THAN WITH WINDOWS 7

Some benchmarks on the web have shown that Windows 8 is a bit faster for games, but Windows 8 has become a bit controversial before release because the new interface has befuddled a few people. They want an operating system that is easy to navigate. Let's take a look at some of the navigation (assuming no shortcuts or frequently-opened links are set).

Launching Microsoft Word on Windows 7:

Mouse left-click on Windows Start button, mouse left-click All Programs, mouse left-click Microsoft Office, mouse left-click Microsoft Word. A total of 4 actions.

Launching Microsoft Word on Windows 8:

Keyboard press the letter W. Mouse left-click Microsoft Word. A total of 2 actions.

Launching Windows Update on Windows 7:

Mouse left-click Windows Start button, mouse left-click on All Programs, mouse left-click Windows Updates. A total of 3 actions.

Launching Windows Update on Windows 8:

Keyboard press the letter U, mouse left-click Settings in the upper right of screen, mouse left-click Windows Update icon. A total of 3 actions.

Launching Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 with Windows 7:

Mouse left-click Windows Start button, mouse left-click All Programs, mouse-over Steam, mouse left-click Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 Multiplayer. A total of 4 actions.

Launching Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 Multiplayer on Windows 8:

Keyboard press the letter C, mouse left-click icon for Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 Multiplayer. A total of 2 actions.

Launching Windows Control Panel on Windows 7:

Mouse left-click Windows Start button, mouse left-click Control Panel. A total of 2 actions.

Launching Windows Control Panel on Windows 8:

Keyboard press the letter C, mouse left-click Control Panel icon. A total of 2 actions.

Clearly Windows 8 requires less or same number of actions to navigate than Windows 7 and is the easier interface. What do you readers think? Comments?

double click shortcut on desktop - 1 action

you are comparing start menu accessibility to clicking on a shortcut icon - seriously?

The "type first letter" thing can also be done on the Windows 7 start menu, so your argument is a blatant fallacy.

Furthermore, for Windows 7 you enumerate the "mouse left click on Windows start button", but somehow in Windows 8 you seem to omit the equivalent click that takes you to the start screen.

Talk about bias.

I'll have to agree with the previous posters. I actively use both desktop and a custom start menu with smarter indexing, with little to no need to open Programs. Doing a near total Modern UI bypass is essential for people who want to strip Windows 8 from the forced UI and transform it into a higher performing Windows 7.

However, for people who run the stock UI, having less steps is always a good thing, although that is offset by the unnecessary learning curve that could've been avoided by making the UI shift a smoother transition, as well as Microsoft not having removed the start menu code at the last minute.

I believe it's because he believes the new start menu is now his desktop

meh, worthless tips since everything can be done the same way in win7, as previous posters already noted.
