GeForce 470.25 CUDA on WSL / Windows Insider

Recommended Posts

Download via Windows update in dev channel.

To create a backup go to C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download\install\
There must be a file with recent date stamp and some 100 MB file size, the name usually consists of random hex numbers without .CAB extension

R470.25 (bugfix_main-16945) / 27.21.14.7025 (4-6-2021)
Vulkan API 1.2.174
OpenCL 3.0 CUDA 11.4.0 FULL_PROFILE

FYI: driver packages drom Windows update are yet not compatible with NVCleanstall

Workaround: NVCleanstall 1.9.1 looks for subfolders
Display.Driver
HDAudio
NVI2

If you create them and fill them with expected content as seen in Game ready drivers, then you can do a minimal installation

EDIT 2:

this driver is hogging system interrupts on my rig, so i removed it 💩

If you didn't succeed with my workaround, use the old method:

  1. Disable driver signature before installation
  2. Unpack driver with 7zip
  3. Open nv_dispi.inf in a decent editor like Notepad++
  4. Inject your GPU like this:

    [NVIDIA_Devices.NTamd64.10.0...17098]
    %NVIDIA_DEV.11A1%           = Section002, PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_11A1
    %NVIDIA_DEV.0FC0%           = Section002, PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0FC0

    [Strings]
    DiskID1 = "NVIDIA Windows 10 (64 bit) Driver Library Installation Disk 1"
    FLG_ADDREG_KEYONLY = 0x00000010
    NVIDIA = "NVIDIA"
    NVIDIA_A = "NVIDIA"
    NVIDIA_DEV.11A1 = "NVIDIA GeForce GTX 670MX"
    NVIDIA_DEV.0FC0 = "NVIDIA GeForce GT 640"

  5. If setup.exe fails, install driver via have disk method
  6. Confirm warning screen

However all R470 drivers sucked so far and i was very surprised that NVIDIA's datacenter division flagged this branch LTSB 💩

Если у вас не получилось с моим обходным решением, используйте старый метод:

  1. Отключить подпись драйвера перед установкой
  2. Распаковать драйвер с помощью 7zip
  3. Откройте nv_dispi.inf в приличном редакторе, таком как Notepad ++.
  4. Вставьте свой графический процессор следующим образом:

    [NVIDIA_Devices.NTamd64.10.0 ... 17098]
    % NVIDIA_DEV.11A1% = Section002, PCI \ VEN_10DE & DEV_11A1
    % NVIDIA_DEV.0FC0% = Section002, PCI \ VEN_10DE & DEV_0FC0

    [Strings]
    DiskID1 = "Диск 1 для установки библиотеки драйверов NVIDIA Windows 10 (64-разрядная
    версия) " FLG_ADDREG_KEYONLY = 0x00000010
    NVIDIA = "NVIDIA"
    NVIDIA_A = "NVIDIA"
    NVIDIA_DEV.11A1 = "NVIDIA GeForce GTX 670MX"
    NVIDIA_DEV.0FC0 = "NVIDIA GeForce GT 640 "

Thanks, I did everything according to the instructions! Works fine

Cool, i see you chose the latest Game Ready driver. Makes more sense.

Which hardware exposes the yellow exclamation marks? You should install drivers for that as well.

Review this guide:

And also tell me please. What video card can I put in this laptop from the 9 series... After all, it has a 2.0 bus does it make sense to put something else in place of the 680?

So I need to install the old driver ?

Again i can only speculate.

If you see a yellow bang in device manager, then unpack 425.31 with 7zip
Try to install old USB-C driver via have disk method, ie in device manager navigate to /425.31-notebook-win10-64bit-international-whql\NV3DVisionUSB.Driver\nvstusb.inf

Otherwise find a desktop computer with Kepler GPU and current driver installed.
Connect 3D glasses there and check how it looks like in device manager.
