Expanding available refresh rates

Here's a question for some of you driver gurus. Why are mobile drivers so hell-bent on offering only 60 Hz refresh rates. I realize and agree that there is no flicker advantage to higher rates on an LCD panel. What I am really after is the ability to use 72 or 75 Hz for frame sync reasons in games. With 60 Hz refresh and frame-sync on, if the game's frame rate drops below 30 Hz, then it's forced all the way down to 20 Hz. And then below 20 to 15. With 72 Hz refresh, I get more usable rates: 36,24,18,14.

So, do any of you know how to hack the drivers to allow for moderate changes in the refresh rate? Thanks. :)
