Liteon 24082k CDRW/DVD Combo won't boot

A few months ago, I upgraded my 4x Toshiba sd-2002 burner to a Liteon LSC-24082k 24x burner.

The burner works just dandy, but when it came to reinstall Windows XP it would boot to the CD.

Yes I have the CD set to boot before the floppy and HD in the BIOS.

Yes I have updated to the latest Firmware (version N)

My old burner worked fine with booting to the CD, but now nothing.

As a result I wasted hours, formatting my HD partition to FAT32 then via WIN98 boot floppy with the required files to get the CD working install XP, for anybody doing this just run WINNT.exe on the CD and it will install XP via DOS command !!

All is working again now, but I would hate to do that again.

Anbody have any ideas ?

Pieter.

it would boot to the CD.
You mean it wouldn't boot as in topic description?

Maybe something with the jumper config on the new Burner (slave/master). Try CableSelect or Master or Slave (just depends on how it it attached (Primary Slave or Secondary Master/Slave?).

(very vague suggestion.) :)

Cheers Dontknow,

Your post in another place got me thinking, and a quick google search lead me to discover that the 24082k comes with it set to slave by default.

There is a program (http://codeguys.rpc1.org/utilities.html) that will allow you to change it to Master.

Now why doesn't Liteon have this program on their site, there is a 50/50 chance that it will need to be a master.

It's working just fine now. (phew)

Cheers,

Pieter.
