Calibrate Battery

Hi again!

I have a problem ... Toshiba Power Saver battery meter is not calibrated with real charge of battery.

There was some normal tear and wear so battery is not 100% like before (more like 80%) but TPS is not calibrated with real value ... when it says i have 20% left its already on 0% and the lappy just goes down. How can i calibrate the TPS to the new battery charge ?

Thanks in advance

A week ago i also had a first time issue with the battery charge: i heard music in battery mode in a park for almost three hours, then i hibernated when it was almost empty and went home. I plugged in AC, the LED showed orange for loading (or not full battery), but cPax battery meter was not blinking, which indicated to me that the battery is actually not re-loaded/charged. A short double check in the XP Energy Option also showed that the battery is still 0% loaded.

What i did then was i removed the battery, Restarted XP, shut down XP, put in the battery again, and then everything was fine. It loaded again. I had AC plugged in all the time during this process.

There are a couple of tools swirling around in the net, for 'calibrating' battery. Or for completely making the battery empty rapidly. Or both together... If anyone can search and post it, we will put them in the Utilities section.

cPax battery notification will not blink if charge level is 0. Also note that if battery level is 0, it takes a long time to charge while the computer is on, and I noticed that its even slower when fully discharged.

Another problem with battery is as we all know battery wear level, capacity decreases as it charges. Using MobileMeter you can see your Battery Wear Level, but I can't say anything on accuracy of it but seems pretty accurate to me. Mine is currently at %9 and when my battery indication is about %12, it suddenly drops to %3-2 and gives alarm which I think because of this capacity loss. I recommend using this application to check your battery wear level. Other than these, I never noticed a calibration problem, but this actually can be called incalibrated, TPS or Windows should compute wear level and give battery percentage according to that.

Battery Callibrator (this is my opinion) is a waste of time.

It does lower how much charge the battery can hold, but doesn't allow for broken cells.

If your battery jumps say from 20% to 3% then you have a faulty cell(s) and the Calibrator gets fooled as it still tries to charge the cell but it holds no charge.

If your battery starts to play up, you'll have to get used to it, callibrating the battery won't help, it will gurantee a lower top charge.

What is the best way to have a Laptop battery, do you leave it in the machine day and night while on AC?

Do you take it out when fully charged and then put it somewhere till used.

Do you leave it empty and then charge before going on the road.

I left mine in the machine 100% of time and cells died, very frustrating when your on 40% then to 3% in a few seconds, when it took an hour to get to 40%.

And Battery callibrator didn't remove the broken cells.

My way of handling the battery is taking it out when i'm @ AC. If i'm lazy and that unfortenutely is quite often i just leave it in the Laptop. It's a Lithium-IOn type of battery (i think almost all new Laptops have these) and i *heard* that these doesn't have the disadvantage of loosing Life rate when constantly beeing charged while the battery is full. Need to do a WIKI research for that agian.

I usually let the battery totally deplete and then recharge full (3 or 4 hours/overnight, haven't counted the hours yet), after that taking it out again.

I'm not often on battery as it's a Desktop replacement for me, so i can't complain much about battery life (lasts finetuned about 3 hours). Not comparable with Centrinos i know, but hey this baby (and it's technology even more) is almost 2,5 years old.

I once used to know a small shop where you could replace broken Cells in all type of rechargeable batteries, a real specialists and i gave him the battery of a friend's Laptop which he repaired.

This is exactly what I do, EXACTLY! And I agree with your theory as well!

TPS is 5.04.00

According to MobileMeter wear percentage is 13%.

Gonna try the remove battery , stop XP, start XP, stop XP put battery and let you guys know about the result.

When your laptop goes from 40% to 3% you are sure that you're cells are starting to die. (reduced capacity)

How does you're laptop know on what % your battery is, well it measures the current that goes true you're laptop,

and compare it to the designed max current (in mAh). So a battery of 3000mA lasts for 3h's on 1000mA. But when

you're battery starts to die, and say it has become a 2000mA battery, it will only lasts for 3h's. But when you have taken 2000mA, your laptop thinks it has anouther 1000mA to go, but you're battery can't give it annymore so your laptop shuts down.

Solution is calibrating you're battery so it thinks it has a 2000mA battery instead of a 3000mA battery.

ANYBODY HAVE SUCH A TOOL?

A verry good solution is replacing the cells in your battery, that will be @ 1/2 of normal battery price, i've replaced a

tecra 9000 batterypack for ?36 (at ebay) and there were 1800mA cells in it, wich i replaced by 2400mA cells,

so my laptop still runs for 1h @ 0% charge rate :) (reverce problem lol)

Greetgings ,

firms are earning personnel use their laptops lengthier. If you are

beginning to inform your mom and father to take care of inserting collectively with their laptops

for four or 5 a long time instead than just 3, you could possibly be jogging into

an unpredicted price: lifeless laptop batteries.

Effectively, to be honest, your laptops batteries most likely arent entirely

lifeless. Take into account Lithium Ion batteries usually eliminate about 20% from the

capability annually, an average three-year-old laptop may only get

around an hour around about the charge, that may not actually get a folks

with an entire meeting. Outlined listed below are 4 basic ideas to forestall the

day you'll need to switch folks batteries:

Recondition your battery regularly. Most laptop producers (other than

Apple) dont usually allow you to learn about this, but an easy method recognized

as reconditioning (or every so often, recalibrating) can breathe new existence

on your laptop computer battery and include capability back. To attain that, swap off

your display screen saving notion and then any other energy administration equipment which place your

Laptop to relaxation. Entirely charge laptops, soon after which flip it on entirely

lower ?a till it forces reduced due to the fact of insufficient juice. Then charge it

again once again and reinstate your power management stuff. Do this every single

few of a number of weeks (for instance 3 occasions every year).

Take it off when youre not using it. Whenever you go away your laptop computer blocked

in in the desk all day extended each and every day, battery never ever will get an opportunity to

discharge and recharge ?a that is certainly critical to its lengthy-term wellness.

Luckily, theres a straightforward remedy: Just take away the battery. As lengthy as

your laptop computer is attached to AC electricity, battery isnt essential it

ll run with out them. Just be certain you pop it in previous to taking

your laptop computer around the operate.

Make certain that it stays awesome. Warmth could be the primary killer of batteries. Inform your

staff to get care to not let their laptops overheat. One particular typical

approach through which transpires is packing a operating laptop computer right into a backpack or

brief-case. When the laptop computer fails to go to sleep (and permits face the specifics ?a

rest glitches are normal), then your laptop computer could perhaps get insane scorching inside of an

enclosed room. You are able to virtually smell dropping battery durability.

Commence with an excellent-sized battery. When you receive your following spherical of

laptops, upgrade in direction of the extended-existence battery. It's going to not only give

you substantially longer runtime to begin with ?a ideal for street

players and also other folks who works from the workplace a terrific offer ?a but

the inescapable lack of battery existence could have a less pronounced effect.

The added price with the greater batteries could be well worth an investment, since

they end up lasting substantially extended.
