Changelog

3.1 Version 7.82 SR02-2.3
   * WPA for HERMES-I
Wi-Fi Protected Access (WPA) is a security option that restricts
wireless access to your network and communications as an
alternative to the IEEE 802.11 Wired Equivalent Privacy (WEP)
     standard.
     * WEP encrypts data using static encryption keys that must be
set to identical values on each Wireless Client and Base Station.
     * WPA, also referred to as TKIP (Temporal Key Integrity Protocol)
or SSN (Simple Secure Network) will provide dynamic encryption
keys to Authorised Wireless Clients only.

To use WPA you will need a wireless infrastructure that supports
     Wireless Client Authentication.
     * Wireless Clients that satisfy the following requirements:
       - Use hardware and drivers that support WPA (see below).
       - Run an operating system that provides 802.1 x support.
         * Computers running MS-Windows XP (Service Pack 1)
support the 802.1x supplicant by default.
QFE Q815485 is required and can be downloaded from the
            Microsoft website.
         *  Computers running MS-Windows 98, ME or 2000 will need a
            dedicated 3rd party supplicant.
     * Wireless Base Stations must:
        - Support the WPA protocol
        - Be connected to a dedicated Authentication Server
          (for example a RADIUS server).
The Authentication Server will validate whether a Wireless Client is
authorised to access the network and give clearance to the Base Station
to provide a dynamic encryption key plus access to the Wireless Client.

     NOTE:
This release only supports WPA for wireless clients equipped with an
     Agere Systems Hermes-1-based radio.
This release does not support WPA for:
     * Wireless Clients equipped with Hermes 2 radios
     * Wireless Clients equipped with Hermes 1 radios that:
       -operate in "Peer-to-Peer Group" mode.
-operate in "Act as Base Station" mode.
   * Removed 'true world cards' for HERMES-II
Hermes 2 cards are no longer 'true world cards',
the country settings have been removed from the control panel.

3.2 Version 7.82 SR02-2.2
   HERMES-II
     * This was the first release for Hermes-II.

3.3 Version 7.82 SR02-2.1
   HERMES-I
     * Improved firmware version 8.72 for station and AP is
       embedded in the driver.
     * Wake On LAN (WOL) functionality has been added to the
       drivers for the PCI adapter.
To be able to work with WOL following settings must be
       applied (XP):
       1. Advanced Power management ON
       2. Wake On Lan ON
       3. Allow this device to wake up the computer ON
WOL reacts on so-called magic packets only.

3.4 Version 7.62 SR02-1
     * Introduction of driver variants
Variant 2 has been defined for two purposes:
       1. to identify NDIS 5.1 drivers (NDIS 5.0 has variant 1)
Note that NDIS 5.0 and NDIS 5.1 are covered by NDIS 5
       2. to identify NT4 Softex drivers (NT4 has variant 1)
Variant 2 drivers have a 'B' appended to the filenames
       listed above.
Future variant 3 will have a 'C' appended.
Variant 1 has no 'A' appended.

     * Fixed OHCI controller problem for USB drivers
     * Drivers support both Variants of the USB Card.
Both old style Variant 1 (with embedded PC Card)
and new style Variant 2 (single board).

     * For each OS a multi-brand INF file is generated.
As the name suggests, a multi-brand INF file contains
the card characteristics of various brands.
Multi-brand must not be confused with Combined, the latter
representing the card characteristics on various OS’es
       for one brand.
     * Various inconveniences w.r.t. Japanese help files
and screen texts have been resolved
     * Stability issues have been resolved for
       the Control Panel Applet
     * Firmware 8.42 is used in the driver.
       - Initial value for CurrentTXRate is 11 Mbps i.s.o. 2 Mbps.
       - Led behaviour has been modified:
         Power led off: radio disabled
Power led continuously on: radio enabled
Power led flickers every 100 ms: radio enabled and
                                             power management ON
         Activity led off radio disabled
Activity led flickers once per 10s: radio enabled
                                             but no network found
Activity led flickers every 100 ms: radio enabled and
                                             Rx/Tx activity

3.5 Version 7.42 Winter 2002
     * Added support for
       - 802.1x authentication
       - Ultra high density
       - Promiscuous mode
       - PCI Adapter Card

     * Extended functionality of Control Panel Applet
The Control Panel Applet has been extended such that it
supports multiple cards to be configured in a single
       system.

     * Agere-ization has been performed, involving
replacement of Lucent-related texts to Agere equivalent.

3.6 Version 7.08 Fall 2001
     * Correct problem: Control Panel Applet does not accept
       hexadecimal coded encryption keys.

3.7 Version 7.06 Summer 2001
     * Added Firmware as part of the driver.
     * Changed ControlPanel to Wizard style
     * Added Enhanged PowerManagement

3.8 Version 6.28 Winter 2001
     * Added functionality for enabling/disabling radio from the
       Client Manager
     * Putting 'ANY' in a peer-to-peer profile gives a apropriate
       warning.
     * Profiles can now be selected through the keyboard.

For completeness reasons i uploaded the last know version (by me) of the generic AGERE Wireless Lan (WiFi) Client Manger v3.30 for a diversity of WLAN cards (AGERE, ORiNOCO etc., see post above for a complete list)

Here's the link: AGERE WiFi Client Manager v3.30.exe | filesize ~5MB

:)

(Darmdorf: " HERE's the link to the official download site, in case they update the drivers.")

Hi,

I don't see the Agere exe file in the LaptopVideo2go LAN drivers directory.

When I clicked your post's "DOWNLOAD" link, address http://files.laptopvideo2go.com/wlan/age...ate_package.exe, I got this message on the page that opened: "(none) 148.65.98.36 /drivers/wlan/agere_driver_v7.82_&_firmware_update_package.exe laptopvideo2go.com Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.1; StarBand Version 4.0.0.2; SV1; .NET CLR 1.1.4322) 404."

Did the Agere exe file disappear again from the server? If so, will you upload the Agere exe file again?

If it has not disappeared- :) - will you please tell me how to retrieve it?

Thank you for your help.

Jacqueline

Hi folks, i reuploaded the files as i got spammed with mails of people who are in need of the driver and firmware.

Plus the new version v8.22.50.804 is available for public now (see link in first post). The new driver doesn't install here, so a driver to play with...

I've installed both the 8.22.50.804 driver and the 3.30 client manager on a dell with a truemobile 1150. When I run the client manager I get an "incompatible" warning that says the utility is newer than the driver. Any suggestions?

Thanks

Yes, use version 7.xx as 8.xx is only intended for "PCI\VEN_11C1&DEV_AB34&SUBSYS_7007144F"

As you can see in the second Codebox of the first post the driver will support "Compaq WL110 PC Card ". Why the firmware upgrade doesn't work for that specific card is beyond my experience/knowledge.

I am wondering, I installed 8.42 from the second download link, and nothing happens? The .exe said it was updated, but in Device Manager, when I click on properties on my Toshiba Wireless LAN Mini PCI Card, it says this version:

7.42.0.300

Is that correct? Did I do something wrong? Must I restart my computer to see that number change?

Edit: Nevermind, I guess the .exe did nothing. I had to do the "Have disk" method to work it. Sorry. :)

Hi there,

I read through the posts and managed (after some struggeling) to install my Compaq WL110 pccard as Agere Wireless PCCard 0110 on my notebook under W98. I used the Agere driver version 7.82. When I install Agere Client Manager 3.30 the card is recognized, but when I want to add/edit the cards network profile I get an error message: "error opening the control panel applet, WNAGS48C.CPL incompatible". From the Windows control panel, the led's on the card and the basic information from the Client Manager's start screen, the card seems to work ok. But as I cannot edit the cards profile, I cannot get the card working with the network. As it is W98, I need some sort of third party Client Manager. I tried different Client Managers and also the suggested Orinoco and "2-wire wireless" card setup, but I cannot get a working combination. Most other Client Managers don't recognize the card at all, which seems logical to me. I read some post before which seemed to have the same problem, but there was the suggestion to use driver 7.82 and I do. I cannot find a different and working Agere Client Manager. Any suggestions?

(I tried the same card setup under XP with XP's "wireless zero configuration" and it worked right away, with WPA-TKIP).

Thanks, Kees.

hello,

i have the following problem. i have a Toshiba Wireless LAN Mini PCI card and this card supports wpa but when i want to connect to our network, i dont have to fill in a password. i just get an error. and when i manually try to add the network, i cant select wpa only wep. our network is secured with wpa.

so i think i need to update the drivers? now i have version 7.14.0.1. when i try to install a newer version. i get the message that the driver isnt newer than the old one :)

so what can be the problem? or can somebody give me the right driver version

thanks

im also from belgium :)

If i remember correct it doesn't support wpa, so you might want to buy a new mini-pci wlan card.

I am having the same issue. I also updated to driver version 7.82.0.550. I got the driver from Agere systems. This driver produces the same errors that you experienced with the older driver. Therefore, I think I might go ahead and buy a new mini pci wlan card as I do believe, and I Have TRIED everything, that it is a hardware issue.

This works also for Dell Latitude D600 with Toshiba mini wireless lan card.

Only update the driver witch you can find on your local specified directory.
