The other thread is a little messy.

Basicly whats happening, HP ZD 7000 with the go5700 won't update from 54.01.

When uninstalling drivers then intalling new ones, 54.01 comes back after reboot.

This is happening with XP pro and MCE

The same machine with a go5600 updates just fine.

Some OEM restore CD's need something turned off to enable driver updates, I can't remember what it is, and can't find it in the Forum.

Your help would be appreciated, the link on the ZD forums is here

There is no need to register, as even I'm finding it hard to keep track if all the forums.

Enjoy you 3 days off, and see you soon.

Cheers,

Pieter.

I've never heard of an OEM forcing a user to use a certain video driver. I can't imagine the files are heavily write protected they can't be over written on reboot either. Have they attempted safe mode installs?

On a side note: http://www.eagames.com/pccd/lotr_bfme/home.jsp :)

Guest JFranks0987

try a driver cleaner

i used the driver cleaner from www.3dchipset.com

its just called driver cleaner 3

it cleans the cab files and everything and wipes out any trace of the old drivers

i had to do this because the OEM DELL drivers kept installing

hope this helps

The person involved (Spectre) has done all this. (ZD Forums)

He's also got a go5600 version of the ZD 7000 that works fine.

He's not the only one with this problem.

Is there something in XP that could stop new driver from installing ?

I also see that Alienware have a go5700, must see what happens with them.

Pieter.
