Bill
I made your link clickable. Anyway on to your questions, it does appear that your card is upgradeable, the question is though, is there anything better, and if so, where to buy it... I would imagine there is something better, like atleast a 64MB version of your graphics card. I do not know if you there is a better card available. (I'm not a Toshiba expert) you can try searching around, or wait for one of our Toshiba experts like RRR to help you. (he is currently away though...) If you want to play FEAR, I think you need a DX 8 card, which you'll basically need a GeForce 4200 Go/Quadro4 700 GoGL, or any GeForce FX Go card and up. (and probably atleast 64MB) Go try the singleplayer demo (should be second link) of it and see if it runs, that is your best indication, the demo runs decently somewhere between low and medium settings on my laptop, and I think I will buy the full game soon. (1GB of RAM would definitely help with this game) Edited December 27, 2005 by Bill
squarefan
i already called the toshiba service line for spare parts... but as expected it was not very informative. he just offered me the same graphic card for 220? excl. VAT :) LOL!!!!!!! but he said the new toshiba 5200 have a different mainboard layout.. so probably the graphiccard will not fit (even if i buy a 5200 one...). can someone confirm a working graphi card switch in a toshiba 5100/5200??? thx in advance squarefan
sn0wl
I have a 5200 with GFFX5600, never heard it can be upgraded to anything but maybe it is possible to upgrade to something like 5700 but I doubt it. Anyway what did they say about 5200?
squarefan
they didnt say anything... because they know sh*t :) he just offered me the same graphic card i have right now and meant he doesnt know if another one will fit... maybe i can find a 5100 series with a better graphic card... so i think i have to ask the experts here in the forum.. if they know something about it.. squarefan
®®®
I'm also interested in htat topic. sn0wl, you have the Go 5600 i would be very interested in pictures and measurements of the connectors and the card itself :) time to upgrade? should this be merged to the Toshiba 5xxx topic? sn0wl
I'm not touching this thing again, I keep breaking it down already even without opening it! I wish I took some pictures when I did tho. No need to merge. Nothing useful. But you should update the 5xxx topic (at least new BT Stack). Splat
The 5200/5205 series has an integrated GPU on the mainboard unlike the 5100 series with the (flawed? http://www.notebookforums.com/showthread.php?t=48948 ) daughterboard design. In fact the base of the 5200 was a complete redesign. So, you would need to swap out alot more than just a mainboard and GPU. For the 5200/5205 series, even between the 5200-801 and 5200-902/5205-S705 the positioning of the 460 and 5600 GPUs are different. In conclusion, it would be a major mod to upgrade from a 5100 to a 5200 mainboard!
