Hey there!

I'm running an Alienware Area 51-m with a Geforce 6800 256mb vanilla. I been using the Alienware drivers up until a few months ago when I discovered this godly site and relished in having the latest drivers. For the record, Alienware haven't updated their drivers since March 2005 :o/ Excellent customer service, I think not!

Anyways this latest version is causing a problem. The graphics are badly blurred. The previous incarnations i've tried have been fine but this latest driver + modded I think are causing this lack of sharpness. No other settings have been changed, the problem is most noticeable in Battlefield 2.

I run all my apps at the native resolution of 1440 x 900. I notice that if I ALT+TAB out of BF2 the Windows desktop also suffers from the blurring. When the game closes, the issue goes away. I have altering settings in the nV options and despite altering AA and AF the issue remains.

If you have any suggestions I would be most grateful. In the meantime I will try to grab some screenshots to highlight the issue. Here are my tech stats...

3.6 GHz Pentium 4 HT

2056 MHz DDR 400 RAM

GeForce 6800 256 MB @ 400Mhz Clock; 1100 MHz RAM

Windows XP Professional

17" TFT @ 1440x900 Native

Keep up the great work!

genGz,

Are you sure your native resolution is 1440x900 ?, I though A51m's came with 1680x1050 screens.

The blurring occurs normally on non native resolutions.

If it is the native resolution is the game actually running in that resolution.

Have you tried 79.31 ? this is a clevo driver it may work on your machine.

Clevo makes the laptops for Alienware.

Thanks for the speedy reply!

You are correct that A51's do come with 1680x1050 screens but I went for the reduced 1440x900 coz the former has the web cam built into it. Due to my job I can't bring a camera into work so I sacrificed for the lower resolution. This is definitely the native resolution for the monitor.

With regard to the game, i'm positive it runs in that resolution as it is enforced in the command line. This is because Electronic Arts don't recognise widescreen resolutions in their games yet. Previous driver versions have run sharper than a sharp thing using the same config.

I will run the Clevo drivers and feedback to you. And while i'm at it i'll register for the forum.

<= Too lazy!

If you have any suggestions in the meantime they would be most welcome.

Thanks

genGz

Seems like a codec issue. Download the K-lite or Codec Pack All-In-One from www.free-codecs.com

Hi!

I have rolled back my driver version to the Clevo distribution.

The problem is still persisting.

I have also discovered that it not only happens when gaming but I also get blurring when I use a java application. I have reinstalled the decrepid old Alienware drivers again and I get no such problem.

Any ideas folks?

genGz <= registered :)

Hi Mordy,

I'm Panpan, I'm at the origin of the first post (I forgot my name).

Thank you for reply, but I'm sure that the codec are good because with the origin driver of acer (62.12) it work properly.

I search everywhere in the configuration menu but nothing.

Is somebody can help me please ?
