i have a dell latitude d800 w/ nvidia 4200go 64mb

i have it do nothing when i close the screen (other than turn lcd off)

i was playing around w/ tv-out the other day

tv is 2nd display

and when i close the screen tv becomes first display @ smaller res (800x600 rather than lcd's setting of 1920x1200)

i tried tvtool and it does that same thing

does anyone know if there is a way to set it so that it stays w/ the same settings i had w/ screen open & closed)

ie: i want to close hte laptop (so i dont burn out lcd / backlight) and watch divx/dvd/etc on tv) w/out it thinking that lcd is gone when off

thanks

The TV should only display 800x600 anyway, unless you have a HD TV then there are settings higher.

When you close the lid, the LCD and backlight should turn off, even with the lid settings set to 'Do nothing'

This is what happens on my machine.

This way the 1st display should stay LCD (even though it's off) and 2nd display should stay what ever is attached. (ie watching DVD on a TV with lid closed)

Some Dells have an odd way of dealing with lid closure, I'm not sure whats going on here.

This will probably require an INF settings, but which one, I don't know (yet)

Pieter.

As a Dell Inspiron 8100 owner, I concur with the results.

800x600 is max resolution on TV-Out.

I've set the TV as the primary display instead of the second display. Essentially the same thing as you do but without closing the lid so I can access the keyboard.

I having one hell of a time getting the TV-Out to display in color. it always

displays in black and white and it is very annoying. I've used it before but

then i had the original drivers and it was used on a crappy apex tv. Now i

have the 60.57 drivers and using it on a sony tv. Can anyone tell me what

the problem is???

Actually on some graphics cards the max TU out res is 1024 x 768.

The card uses some type of TV scaling to do it but the quality isn't as good.

I have also noticed that Dell laptops have an odd way of turning the screen off.

DELL

Inspiron 8500

BIOS version

GF4 4200 Go

WUXGA

56.72 with pieters mod .inf for that version

I also have not been able to use TV out for a LONG time (since vid bios update A02 - wich had its own issues). currently i experience the "only in black and white" TV out problem. its a major hassle, and if anyones been able to figure out how to fix this continuing issue, please post

thanks

For me I only get this with certain driver+inf combinations. I would stay away from the 6X.XX cause quite a few of those have that problem for me anyway.

I just tested the 53.90 and 56.54 and did not have the problem.
