Bill
You need to replace the nv4_mini.sys file with an older one I believe like the 7x series. (77.77? might be good) http://forums.laptopvideo2go.com/index....ghlite=nv4_mini If you get that to work we can do some more investigating. Guest Guest
Thx for responding! I will try it now! The strange thing is that ,after my first post, and having the pc cleaned with(driver cleaner pro),i restarted the pc,and tried to install my old drivers(71,89-->Last official support for my card i think)and again the same bsod. I was verry lucky i had i restore point 1 hour before i start "playing" with the drivers.Restoring(back to insatlled 71,89),anything worked ok. It seems that even uninstallation of drivers and driver cleaner pro cannot clean the pc to avoid crash 100%. Anyway i uninstalled the drivers again, driver cleaner, restart ,and attemp to install the modded 8340.....Same bsod.... :) Restore again, everything works ok,i'll uninstall my drivers now and do what u said... Guest Guest
Ok i cleaned everything, restart and intall of mod drivers+nv4_mini (of 79.70) Installation ok,no bsod.I restarted and, problems in 1) color quality-->I cannot put more than 16bit on 1280x1024,in general i have alot less options there.. And i tried one game(that worked on 71,89) nfs u2 and crashed from the beggining... As i understand ,the best temporary solution is putting the last 7x series drivers. Bill
In the nvidia control panel, you should be able to uncheck a box called "show compatible resolutions only" or something like that, then select or add the resolutions you know will work. Maybe at some point we will figure out how to mod that file in the newer drivers. (maybe ASUS laptops just have a bug in them?)
lukasware
I've installed the 83.40 with the modded inf and it worked perfectly on my 8100 with a 16MB GeForce2 Go. Then I installed in on an 8200 with a 32MB GeForce4 Go. (both systems 1600x1200) and it also worked perfectly and solved a sleep problem with the 81.97 driver. If the laptop slept, it would never fully come back (barely functional with the CPU stuck at 100%). Both installations were done the "wrong" way by using setup from the driver folder rather than the right way by using driver update and pointing to the folder. I'll try it on at 64MB Nvidia and let ya'll know. but it is very impressive. I hope it works as well for everyone else. Thanks to the laptopvideo2go team! Guest ReDBouL
Again back 71.89. Ok with the resolution but the problem is bigger.Even if the installation is succesful,no bsod, and normal restart at a high resolution. No game can be played + the card in System Properties has a (!) ,and on Display properties (right click on desktop etc)There is no display adaptor shown(It's empty). The most strange thing is that same things happen when i install 79.70 and 77.77. So i'd like to ask,if anyone can corfirm at least ,if a geforce 2pro/gts works ok with drivers of the 75 series ex 77.70 etc. Ps I didn't understood the last u said ,i don't have asus laptop,it a desktop pc :) Anyway, thnx for "sharing" my problem Alex- Rome
Bill
To ReDBoul, I suggest uninstalling the drivers then use a driver cleaner, then after rebooting install the 77.77 drivers using the setup and the INF that comes with it and see what happens. Can even snag from here and use setup if you want. http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp_2k_77.77.html Nvidia did indeed drop support for some older cards in newer drivers, wheather or not Pieter still includes your card in the INF, the ending support could be affecting you. I would suggest that you get a cheap GeForce4 MX or GeForce FX AGP or a PCI card if you don't have AGP. If the nvidia settings aren't shown that is probably a sure sign the driver did NOT install succesfully. I thought you had a laptop because I am an idiot. Moving right along.... :) To lukasware: Glad we could help you! :) Really you should be able to install just about anything on an I8200 with a GF4go as long as you don't install older drivers on top of newer ones... Guest ReDBouL
Hello again, I tried installing 77.70 from the link u gave me,without mod inf,and it says it doesn't found compartible hardware. Even with mod inf,it does the same problems as with the 80seriess drivers.. It seems i'll stay with the 71.89 Anyway thanks for ur help! Bill
That is odd, something sounds fishy here. If you uninstall and run a driver cleaner and then install this on your desktop and it doesn't run something is wrong. http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp_2k_66.93.html You really should consider getting a new card, a GF 4 MX or GF FX card is very cheap these days. Guest Guest
83.40 didn't work on my Clevo M570A / Sager 5720 (7800 GTX) ... Screen goes black and flashes all few seconds. I had to rollback to the last System Restore point. No idea what's wrong.
Bill
It might be this driver, I have been saying all along these are probably buggy. You should probably stick with 81.98 and 82.12 for the time being. I bet nvidia will release a new official driver soon so we will see what happens. windsurfer
Hi. I just installed the 83.40 driver and I went from 70.70, but after installing it my screen is more darker/black. is there a fix for this? How can that be? It is not just the brightness! my laptop: Zepto 6515WD, w. Go6600 128mb //Merged. You only need to make one post. - Bill Edited February 10, 2006 by Bill
Bill
That is odd, have you tried changing it from the BIOS and the nvidia control panel? (or fn+arrow keys or whatever it is on yours) Could have changed your brightness and contrast settings. Is the brightness the same prior to booting into Winblows? Kamika007z
lukasware, About the Inspiron 8200 waking up and having 100% cpu, that is related to your network card drivers. Make sure you download the latest driver from 3Com's site. For more info read this thread. Post number #
windsurfer
Well i can adjust the brightness, but is not the problem. It the coler that has gone darker. I tried to make som adjustment in nvidia control panel, put it didnt help. I cant access it from bios. When i change back to 70.70 the coler comes clean again. That is odd, have you tried changing it from the BIOS and the nvidia control panel? (or fn+arrow keys or whatever it is on yours)Could have changed your brightness and contrast settings. Guest Guest
i've download the 64 bit driver and the modded inf. But it's a very strange thing that appened. Both with the "Have disk" method and the "setup" method the driver seems to install, but on the next boot it doesn't compares in Device Manager... The device listed is a standard VGA....
