hazart
I'm doing this from memory so bear with me.If you go to TvsSupport.ini in the generic section, there is a line for supported systems (first or second line). Change the 0 to 1 and this will now install on any Toshiba system. The installation is possible, but does TVS work?
Guest Guest
I tried on a Qosmio G10 and Satellite A20 - both work perfectly with the method I mentioned above. The method should work with most if not all Toshiba models. I think where people get in trouble is when they attempt to modify a specific model in the .ini file to match their own model id. The problem with that approach is that some settings in in say the QF15 section clearly are specific to that model (i.e. Harman Kardon speakers that support certain output) and will cause trouble when installed on a system that does not have those capabilities (i.e. stock speakers instead of harman Kardon). For example I can get away with modifying one of the Qosmio sections to install on my Qosmio G10(which is not supported btw) with no problems. However modyfing the Qosmio sections and installing on my A20 causes major problems. I think you get the point. The method I described previously uses generic settings which are common amongst Toshiba systems and it therefore seems to always work. It basically tells TVS to install on any Toshiba system with the lowest common denominator to ensure maximum compatibility.
sn0wl
Hazart, did you try uninstalling previous one before installing? I know some Toshiba software has problems with updating. Maybe a fresh install would work.
®®®
Thanks guest for the insights and sharing with us. I tried that method (supported = 1), installation (fresh install) went fine. Setup screen even showed my Model (readout from DMI), but default settings did not include Harman/Kardon speakers, but anyways i let it install, rebooted. No TVS tray symbol, no speaker enhancement (at least i didn#t notice with my short testing). We will find out!! :)

sn0wl
Same here but I noticed the 1.00.10 version shows my speakers as standart speakers, which I think was H/K before. How come?
Guest Guest
Not sure what to say guys since I only have the A20 and Q10 to test on. However all options are enabled and seem to work. In fact you can easily hear the sound difference when you apply the various settings so I know it works. Also the TVS icon appears after installation and reboot. I will try to look carefuly at the options and give some further advice. I don't mean to offend anyone as I'm sure that you are already doing this, but make sure that you remove existing TVS and reboot. Then install and reboot again. I found that when I did not reboot after removal I also did not have TVS appear in the tray.
®®®
I think we are _not_ reboot resistant. 2 or 3 reboots are no reboots :) My install was done on a fresh, virgin XPProSP2. No TVS before. Nothing, which can harm TVS. I saw Quosmio and A series in the .INI file. No 5xxx model. Maybe they did not include support for us? But that would be rather extreme. NV officially don't support Go cards, they offer no driver, even though support is hardwired in the driver files itself. Looking forward for more hints from mysterious guests :)
sn0wl
Instead of generic, setting one of the fields to PS522 worked for me. But results were the same, no icon. Rene did you notice this was the same with latest TPS as well? Installs fine but nothing shows up after that. Like you suggested before I started to think Toshiba is putting another HW check to applications themselves. Can you confirm that the old TVS identifies your speakers as H/K while installing? What could be wrong with mine? Is there a possibility of changing DMI?
®®®
Rene did you notice this was the same with latest TPS as well?... Is there a possibility of changing DMI? It did install right away the very latest TVS (didn#t bother to tes/install any older version), so no test result here. I could try out when i'm at home again (restoring PQDI image :) ) and test any other version (which one ?) Changing DMI could be the right path to trick TVS installer :) And it's possible :P Have a look in the mobile SystemBIOS update forum . The one thread which is about DMI Update Utility. Create a boot able disk, search the disk for editable files (i forgot which one exactly, so open every file with NOTEPAD or the like) and edit it. Thats what i made when updating my DMI (Now DMI says TOSHiBA 5205 instaed of what can be found in the .CFG file). After that run the updater and you're set. sn0wl
I think problem could be with Sound Card. Let's ask who successfully managed to install them by editing ini file - they probably have Sigma or Realtek soundcards or whatever the name was. I saw a registry setting in related to TVS which had my soundcard DEvID and SubSys as an entry. It may be the reason why TVS cannot initialize itself. Maybe we should try older/Toshiba's Yamaha drivers? And Rene can you tell me what the old working version tells about your Speaker Type while installing? Mine now shows Standart Speaker. Shouldn't it say Harman/Kardon?
®®®
Yes same here. It showed Standard speaker, no H/K. Btw i use version 3159 (the last NEC Japan release) of Yamaha driver (with my modded INF to include support for my DEVID and Subsys), so another option why it doesn't work? Too many options! ######. I need to test old working TVS and will report speaker type to you. My old working config from 2005 used 3159 with old TVS for several months, so i think it's the new TVS which is the culprit. sn0wl
I wonder what "for evaluation only" means. Does it work in a demo mode or something? Rene it installs fine here when I edit one of the fields to PS522 but still get no icon - that made me think the problem could be with our sound hardware. LSudlow
I took this driver apart and it looks like it's intended for HD Audio devices only. (Or at least devices that are compatible with HD Audio.) The problem is with the device driver itself. If you replace it with the 1.00.02 driver, you'll get the tray icon but none of the new features. If you don't replace the driver, you won't get the tray icon or any of the TVS functionality. It doesn't generate any error messages - it just silently bombs out. I suspect this is why the "generic" install is disabled. It's only intended for the newer laptops that support HD Audio. ®®®
So the important part to edit would be to find out which we need here: 1. Did you manage to extract all .CAB files with i6comp? Doesn't work here. Is there another way.
sn0wl
Yes extracted all in the first cab file - won't extract the second one in the folder. I think tricky part is those bits as well. Analog AC97 devices sounds pretty generic. Lets play some of them and see if that helps. I wish we had a Toshiba engineer that could anonymously help us out :)

Maybe it's the file with HD audio capabilities. But we HD audio NO HAVE :)
LSudlow
If you need Cab2 extracted, let me know. I can get everything. The problem isn't with CSIIDecoder_kern_i386.sys, it's with tvs.sys (which is the driver). CSIIDecoder_kern_i386.sys is the file that enables and controls CircleSurround II (which probably also needs a HD Audio chip). Also note that the SRS decoder in this version is SRS_HD, probably also requiring a HD Audio chip.
sn0wl
SRS Circle Surround II converts 5.1 or 6.1 channel surround sound into 2 channel signal which is recorded or broadcast using conventional technologies, then retrieves the original 5.1 or 6.1 channel signal form a surround sound system. Any multi-channel surround sound source can be recorded on an ordinary CD format, or can be broadcast through the current FM stereo broadcasting system.Circle Surround II also creates a rich base sound overcoming the limit of low frequency play back for the speaker system, and retrieves a clear and rich high frequency perception owing to SRS FOCUS that also has an effect of raising the sound image position upwards. SRS Circle Surround Xtract combined with SRS TruSurround XT creates an immersive surround sound of Circle Surround II using only 2 speakers or a set of headphones. SRS WOW HD delivers an amazing virtual surround sound from various two channel contents over two speakers or headphones. I think the point is this version really needs a HD capable sound device. Look also how they renamed WOW to WOW HD. I give up, at least for now.
