Hi,

I've a Lenovo Y310a with 8400M GS 128MB.

DEV_ID: 10DE-0427

SUBSYS_ID: Lenovo (17AA)

I'm trying to use the right OEM INF, I checked both Reference Lists (naming scheme & SUBSYS_IDs), for 17AA, it's supposed to be NVCT.inf(Compal) or NVLT.inf(Lenovo).

Now, this is where it gets interesting, my laptop came with a Lenovo Drivers CD specifically for this model, even has "Y310 Drivers" printed on it. The Nvidia driver that came with the CD is the older version 101.34. The INF file inside is NVQU.inf, and according to your lists, NVQU.inf is for QUANTA (ODM): sold by ACER, BenQ, vprMatrix, SABIO, AHTEC. :)

So out of curiosity, I went to the Lenovo website and try to download the Nvidia drivers for the Y410a. The Y410a is exactly the same as the Y310a, except it has a 14.1 screen instead of 13.3. There is no downloads for Y310a on their website for some reason, even the Lenovo tech support points Y310a users to download from the Y410a section, because the hardware is supposed to be the same except the screen size. Anyway, I download both XP and Vista version from them, funny thing is they use NVCT.inf(Compal) and NVAM.inf(ASUS) :P

So which one should I follow, my CD, or Lenovo's website, or the Reference Lists here? :)

Please help, thanks.

The list you are refering was made to give people a rough idea of what kind of INF naming scheme the majority of laptop manufacturers are using. There are exceptions of course as you already noticed.

The thing is here to figure out what DEVICE_ID your card is. You already figured that. It is DEV_0427. Now the next step would be to do a (text) search within all the OEM INFs of the particular driver you wish to use (i assume you are speaking of 174.74 which comes with >40 manufacturer's INFs) and find your device. The possibility to find an INF supporting your DEVICE_ID is great. The possibilty to find an INF supporting your DEVICE_ID and the SUBSYS_ID is low. So in order to use one of the manufacturers INF you want an INF which is only listing/supporting DEV_IDs (like what Pieter's INF does) and not be dependable from SUBSYS_IDs.

®®®,

Thanks for explaining the details to me, now it is a lot more clearer. :)

I did a text search like you said on NVLT.inf, NVCT.inf, NVAM.inf, and NVQU.inf.

NVLT.inf -> No good at all, DEV_0427 didn't even show up.

NVCT.inf and NVAM.inf -> Both, DEV_0427 showed up, but the exact matching SUBSYS_400C17AA didn't show up, only a few other XXXX17AA did.

NVQU.inf -> I think this is the best one, cause both matching DEV_0427 and SUBSYS_400C17AA showed up. :)

Yeah, it's for the 174.74 driver, I was using 169.28 before. 174.74 seems to be running 2-3C warming at idle even with a matching OEM INF. I will give this 174.74 a try and see how things go. I think 169.28 has the coolest temp I've seen so far, just doesn't have the matching OEM INF though.

P.S. Also thanks for explaining the .CAT file thing in the other thread.

hi,,

I have Ahtec W820 with Geforce go 7900 gs

gpuzbmppe0.th.jpg

%NVIDIA_G71.DEV_0298.2% = nv4_W820, PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0298&SUBSYS_2054161F

I found that line in NVAR.INF ((NV(is nvidia, no?)AR(is Arima?).INF )) that was on my original driver (DriverVer = 03/02/2006, 8.4.1.5)

I know my laptop is based on Arima. How I know? couse when I see down my notebook I see "Arima" xD (but is Ahtec xD)

Greetings

I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask but,

DEV_0649&SUBSYS_30F4103C] NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT

[DEV_0649&SUBSYS_3603103C] NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT

[DEV_0649&SUBSYS_360F103C] NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT

[DEV_0649&SUBSYS_3610103C] NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT

[DEV_0649&SUBSYS_361B103C] NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT

in the above few lines what do the DEV_ and the SUBSYS refer to?

DEV refers to the DEVice ID, which is a shorthand way by NVIDIA to denote a model/generation/series of a graphics card.

SUBSYS is an eight character long string that denotes a particular OEM/vendor's computer model(s) that this driver supports. The first four characters symbolize a specific computer model from the OEM, while the last four characters is a shorthand way to denote the OEM. In essence, this is a method in use by many OEMs that forces the drivers to install only on their products.

BTW, I noticed the original post does not contain nv_whql.inf - it's a generic INF that supports all current desktop and laptop graphics cards.

I have a Toshiba Qosmio F50 with vga card Geforce 9600M GT. My current OS is Vista I want to downgrade it to XP but Toshiba doesn't support the VGA drivers for XP.

My vga installation file is NVCO.inf

My vga id : PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0649&SUBSYS_FF001179

I have look for the driver at this site and found one with the same Device ID but the subsys doesn't match at all. Is it ok if I install the driver with different subsys, or is it not? Please help me since this thing is new to me.

You might try it using the have disk method (FAQ section). Running setup gives no supported hardware found error.
