Lych
I have a Geforce FX 5700 and I have been reading a lot about drivers newer than 72.14 having a powermizer issue where the video card is locked in max power savings mode. I am using driver 84.25 with no issues that I am aware of. How can I tell if my laptop is affected by the powermizer bug?
LSudlow
You can read the text on the PowerMizer page. It tells you what mode you're currently running in. You also can check the clock frequency page to see what frequency your core and memory clocks are running at. Check right after you boot, then unplug your power cord and check again. (The frequencies should drop.) Plug in the power and the frequencies should return to normal. This problem doesn't affect all cards, though we haven't yet discovered why. If you're unaffected, consider yourself lucky!
Lych
Okay, this is strange. When I use 84.25, my laptop is stuck in Max Performance with or without being plugged in; however, with 72.14, my laptop functions properly :) . I guess I will stick with 72.14 from now on. LSudlow
That may be on purpose. The way we've been getting around the problem is to lock PowerMizer at max performance to keep it from dropping the clock speed and getting stuck there.
