What video card is best best:

1, Geforce Go 7600 512Mb?

or 2:

2, Geforce Go 6800 256 mb?

Does the video card memory matter?

Geforce Go 7600 512Mb without any doubt. Chipset is important most, video ram is so minor compared to it. I would even go with a 128mb 7600 compared to a 256mb 6800.

I´ve heard that 6800 cards are better than 7600 cards. I was hoping the big amount of vid memory on this 7600 card would change that.

That 7600 has more newer features than that 6800, I would buy that 7600 too (128 should be enough for me, 256 is perfect to live a long gime :) )

Yes, 7600 is newer, but it replaces the 6600 card, where 7800 is the card to replace 6800.

According to this and other sites, 7600 is a midrange card and 6800 is in the high range: http://en.notebookcheck.com/Comparison_of_...ards.130.0.html

The improvements in the go7600 over the go6600 will almost make it as fast as the go6800 maybe faster..

Also the go7600 will run on alot less power then the go6800

Also other features like updated powermizer etc to help that battery life.

I would choose the 512MB go7600 over the 256MB go6800 mainly due to almost same performance with lots less power use = more battery life.

Ok. The store selling the 7600 says it´s 30% faster than a 6800. My choice is clear.

7600GT is a whole different story. I´m talking about a plain 7600 card.

go7600 Memory Bandwitdth 16GB/sec

go6800 Memory Bandwidth 35.2GB/sec

go7600 Fill rate 3.6Billion pixels/sec

go6800 Fill rate 3.6Biliion pixels/sec

go7600 Vertices/sec 550Million

go6800 Vertices/sec 470Million

These are straight from nVidia's site

The go7600 is more efficient in it's operation and can out perform a go6800.

The go6800 has a much higher memory Bandwidth, so for extreme texture swapping apps this will be faster.

But having 512MB the go7600 will eat up the go6800 in the extremely large texture apps of the future as it won't need to swap to main memory.

But overall the go7600 to me is a better choice.

The go7600GT if it ever comes out (the go6600GT never did) would be the ultimate choice.

i'd go with the 7600, more vid ram (but be sure to get 2 gigs of system ram if you go for the 512 meg 7600 option). it's newer, plus the 6800 is just a plain old 6800, not a gt or xt.
