General overclocking questions

Hi there,

I have a couple of questions about overclocking. Got myself this nice new Aspire 5652 and installed driver 84.25 which allows me to overclock my Geforce Go 7600. My questions:

- Core frequency default is 450 MHz, memory frequency default is 350 MHz. How high can I safely set these two values? (Max values are 900 and 800 MHz)

- What exactly does the "automatic frequency" button do? Does it find out the highest safe frequencies? Or can I go even higher?

Thanks!

Christian

There's no standard answer to that question. You basically take small steps (never higher than 5MHz) and you check for artifacts, unstability and temps. If all is fine, take it one step higher. If not, down again.

Not sure about the newer lappys, but older ones only come with temp sensors on the harddrive and CPU, depending. Each video card is different, just because you and your buddy both got the exact same video card, from the same company, on the same day, doesnt mean you both will be able to overclock to the same levels. most of the people on this board with a laptop exact same specs as mine, can only overclock the FX5200 to a max of 236MHz core before it becomes unstable. However, mine overclocks to 244MHz stable. it's all in your lucky guess I guess.
