Guest Wizer1
I posted this in another thread but I thought I would make a topic out of it to see if anyone has tried it or is going to try it. If you were to go to, say Gateways website (or another big company) and go to their components catalog - Here is a link to the thing I'm talking about- would it in theory be possible to order the 7800gtx as a replacement part from them and then put in your own laptop? I'm not sure if Gateway does orders, but I think they do. And either way I am sure you could find another manufacturor that does this. And if they did it seems like that would be an easy way to get your hands on it (7800 GTX GO). It would have to be MMX3 so the issue might be heat but that would probably be on a per laptop basis. The problem with the MXM-Upgrade site, at least for me, is that its not (as far as I read) available in the U.S. and the cards would be very expensive. If this worked I don't think it would be nearly as expensive. One last note, does anyone know (if it didn't work) if Gateway or other manufacturors would take the part back if it didn't work? Not if the card was broke, but incompatibilty?? Anyways I thought it sounded like a good idea. This "could" be where the one on ebay came from. Or something like that. Anyone else have any luck? Ice-Tea
Just a minor clarification. I dó ship cards to the States, but I'm a bit wary of Custom clearance, meaning that I have no idea if additional charges apply. I have shipped a few to the States without declaring them and haven't had any problems. I'm just checking the water, so to speak :) If you succeed getting cards from Gateway, all the better. You may even succeed to get them cheaper. But here's something I'd like to share. These are the official prices I got from Fujitsu Siemens for parts. Getting them in bulk was a no-no, through service shops only. Please note that their prices are higher than mine without taxes and shipping. Again, if you succeed all the best . I won't hinder you in any way, I haven't done so in the past and I won't do in the future. And while this may seem trivial to you, there's another thing I offer and they don't: support. I dó take back cards (minus shipping), and I can tell you more than most service shops can.
Guest Wizer1
Right now you also don't carry the 7800 cards which is what I was interested in (I am getting one with a 6800 in it already in a little under a month). The only card I saw that you carried was the X1800 and you said yourself it was expensive. Although I thought I remembered you saying something about getting some 7800s in. How much for one? This wasn't an attack on you (ice), I think what you are doing is awesome. I was just suggesting it because it might be cheaper (customs and long distance shipping), quicker (short distance shipping) and most likely easier for us in the states. Plus the whole currency thing is odd. I had to google what the euro symbol was! Maybe even you could try this and make money selling it to us, I don't know. It was just an idea (On another note Ice, do you take paypal??)

I am getting a batch refurbished 7800's of Gateway origin. I should be able to ship them for 300?, whatever that is in dollars :) Oh, and I currently only do bussines through Paypal ;-)
hemingway
hello! i would be interested in buying a x1800xt mxm card... on a very speculative basis. for a replacement of my gf6800 ultra. it should be up to a 7800 gtx i think (which is a replacement for my video card) can you tell me the prices of these please? (the 7800 refurbished ;-) do you know anything about the possibility to replace the 6800 with a 1800 ati? regards... Ice-Tea
Well, AFAIK, the 7800 I'm getting is not GTX and the x1800's I can get are not XT. :) As the 7800 would be a wee bit better than the 6800 ultra, I don't think there's much I can do for you right now :)
hemingway
Hmm... thats sad. but the 1800 without xt for 425 would fit into my notebook? how about the overclocking potential of this card, how about the power consumption... higher or less than the 6800 ultra? sorry for my questions, but i am keen on getting my hands on an ati graphics car for my xps regards,

The xps does not, AFAIK, use MXM technology. And I'm sorry to report I have no 'real' power consumption or overclocking data. Mind you, if you inists I'd be more than willing to con you into a very expensive card you probably can't use :)

I wanted to order a 7800 today, but i was lucky having seen this post before... Have any ideas about it? Is it possible to teach BIOS to see this card?
