Luminati
:P Introduction : My 8600m gt died on acer 5920 -> I've bought HD 3650 from e-bay (256m gddr3, original hp bios attached) -> installed it into my laptop (new heatpad for chip, original 8600m heatpads for mem) -> downloaded catalyst 8.12 -> modded with MobilityModder.NET + changed mem size to 256mb -> installed catalyst. :P Bought a new heatpad for chip (17 W/mK) from store@mxm-upgrade to achieve better chip cooling. I get 81C on a chip after its installation. :) Overclocking: 0) Laptop: acer 5920G, T7300 2.0Ghz, 2Gb RAM, 160HDD, 1 Gb Turbo Mem, HD 3650 video. 1) How-to: downgrade to catalyst 8.10 and set clocks using AMD GPU Clock HIGHER than 600Mhz for engine and 700Mhz for memory and values won't reset back ;-) Cheers. 2) Original clocks (e600/m700) give me 4310 3DMark2006 points which is the maximum I could get with my 8600m GT 512mb DDR2. Nice. 3) Overclocked to e756/m765 @ 95 C -> 5057 3DMark2006. Without changing voltage settings. 4) After setting voltage to 1.2 (using RBE) I can push engine beyond 765Mhz, but this produces too much heat :) Anyway, e810/m765 @ 107 C -> 5180 3DMark 2006 points. (new) Undervolting T7300: 1) Google for "The Undervolting Guide". There you'll find detailed description on lowering power consumtion and heat generated by your CPU. 2) My new settings for Intel Core 2 Duo T7300: x10 - 1.025V vs 1.25V, x6 - 0.85V vs 1.25V 3) Results: 62-65 C on CPU vs 80-85 C and as a result 82-88 C vs 95 C on GPU. Of course this allows more GPU overclocking, but I'd rather stay with lower temperature than continue with overlocking. Tools I've used: 1) MobilityModder.NET 1.1.0 - to modify latest catalyst 2) ATIWinflash 2.0.1.5 - to flash bios 3) RBE (Radeon BIOS editor) 1.18 - to modify/update bios 4) HWMonitor 1.12 - log temperature 5) AMD GPU Clock Tool 0.98 - change clocks, see temp 6) RMClock - for undervolting Collection of all ATI HD 3650 256mb gddr3 bios-s I've found is attached: 1) HP_Wistron_Vox_M86M_10.88.28354_original.rom (Original ROM of my HD 3650) 2) Acer_MXM_M86ME_DDR3_11.00.27693.rom 3) HP_Wistron_Vox_M86M_10.88.28604_FGL.rom 4) HP_Wistron_Vox_M86M_11.00.27062.rom Score formula used by 3DMark 2006: 3dMark Score = 2.5 x 1.0/((1.7/GS + 0.3/CPU Score)/2), where 1) CPU Score = 2500 x sqrt (CPU1 fps x CPU2 fps) 2) GS (for hardware capable of running all tests) = 0.5 x (SM2S + HDRSM3S) 3) GS for hardware capable of running only SM2.0 graphic tests = 0.75 x SM2S hd3650_256mb_gddr3.zip Edited February 17, 2009 by Luminati

Luminati
You can of course try the latest 9.1 catalyst, but I don't think its gonna dramatically change your card's performance. By the way, if you really want to see a decent performance increase - overclock you gpu's engine. eugene2878
Any modifications to the heating system required in order to do that? Also, what CPU do you have please? Thanks for the infos. Guest Guest
for eugene and luminati can you tell me exactly how many points you get to 3dM06 with default gpu and memory at 800Mhz (native clock of GDDR3) because I want to make a comparison with the nvidia 9600m gt many thanks
Luminati
I have Amilo xi1546 with alienware 1.19 bios , T7400 cpu, hd3650 256mb. I have modifaed ati bios in order to provide higher voltage for core and memory. Cpu is undervolted. Hwmonitor shows temp around 75C. Can you share more details on this? How and to what value did you undervolt your T7400? What voltage did you set for hd3650? for eugene and luminatican you tell me exactly how many points you get to 3dM06 with default gpu and memory at 800Mhz (native clock of GDDR3) because I want to make a comparison with the nvidia 9600m gt many thanks All I can tell is that 693Mhz (default) gives me 4310 points and 765Mhz - 4365. So I guess 800Mhz would give something around 4400 on my platform. I hope you do understand that 3dMark score takes also CPU score into account. You can see actual formula in the Post #1. Guest XC
yes i know that 3dmark06 is also dipendent by cpu score , but only 4400pt is a low score for 800mhz ram (and this is only the native clock of the qimonda gddr3 of 3650) i suppose that the nvidia 9600m gt ddr2 is more powerful my friend obtain 4600 pt with cpu intel c2d 1.8ghz and 3gb ram without any oc! Kayldera
Don't forget about the drivers you are using: I pushed my card the 750/880 and with the 8.10 I obtained 4700 pts but as soon as I upgraded to the 9.1 my score dropped to 4500... But I can finally play mass effect at 1680x1050 with everything high with no lag at all and my card only reach 85C so I'm pretty happy with it though I had to push the voltages to 1.2v in 3d mode to keep it stable. I have undervolt the cpu at 1.15v from nhc(notebook hardware control) score 3dm05 9008 pts with max cpu temp 68°C in both cases the gpu temp is max and i underline 73°C(i have mod the heat sink to fit correctly the card ) from 1.5h of test, without any external heatsink cooler but i hear that the best driver are 8.10, are they? thanks
Luminati
but i hear that the best driver are 8.10, are they? Best for what? For gaming I prefer latest AMD.ATI drivers (9.1 at the moment), cause' they include fixes for newest game titles. As for benchmarking I really don't know. It's not like NVidia where you have tons of different drivers from various sources.

Crysis Warhead will be playable @medium. Why? Because I like HDR, more realistic physics, booms & splashes. GTA4...sad experience. Playable, but I couldn't find settings that satisfy my eye. Warhead? The card can run it at 1280.800 with everything in mainstream without any problem. The card can actually do better in this game. See above.
