Guest r.y.a.n
I've got an older version (A01 or A02 in dell version numbers) because the A03 and higher had some messy problems with mouse cursors and opengl.. There was a big fuss about this on the Dell forums and I have some files up on my site for backing up BIOs and stuff. My version is Version 4.28.20.29.D1 The date of them is 02/28/03 (feburary 28th 2003) http://forums.us.dell.com/supportforums/bo...essage.id=91085
®®®
r.y.a.n. , can you tell with beeing 100% sure How To backup VideoBIOS. I mean which application did you use and was your filesize always like in the 64KBs.
Guest r.y.a.n
The program on my site is just a WinRAR SFX compressed file that adds the NVFlash util to a boot diskette, and changes the autoexec batch file to run the NVflash util with a backup command once the computer is booted from that disk. So really it's nVidia's own program doing everything and it should work with pretty much every nVidia card. I know it works because the "PreA03 BIOS" all over dells forums and on my site was created using that disk. I found someone who still had the good BIOS (without the mouse cursor problem) on their system and asked them to try my backup thing, they did and sent me the resulting .rom file, then I flashed my BIOS with it and everything was golden :) Have had no complaints so far! :) Edit: The filesize of BIOS backed up with it are 64.0 KB (65,536 bytes) when viewing the 'size on disk' of the file properties
®®®
so nvflash -b (with version 4) ?? I really have to look at the RAR you mentioned....
Guest r.y.a.n
nvflash -u -b BIOS_BACKUP.rom that's the line I used in the autoexec.bat to backup the file :)

Mouse pointer is not visible on LCD after toggling displays.
Guest r.y.a.n
A03 A04 and A05 (dell versions) all suck apparently, problems in OpenGL apps and the mouse dissappears when placed in this line across the screen. The newer drivers fixed that problem but the openGL still sucks apparently (i never really tested enough to see for myself)
®®®
I see. Good finding. What about the -u parameter? Is the pre A03 bios suitable for all kind of 4200Go cards (means different subsys IDs) so that's why there was need to put that in the commandline of the autoexec? Guest schmintan
i have the A2, dont know how good it is, but i got it on the dell site
Guest r.y.a.n
i completely forget what the -u tag is for but i think i may have just used it because it was used when flashing
®®®
used it because it was used when flashingYou mean it was already there (because you copy&pasted that from some other flash procedure you found) and this commandline may be used "officially" by nVIDIA to flash cards. That would give us a hint that the BIOSs in generally are suitable for all different SUBSYS_IDs of one DEV_ID :)

Enialator
I have read this post and as you can see by my signature I am curious, but also very afraid! Want to update my 4200 will I be needing this info to do so? Eni
Bill
As I said in the other thread go visit Dell's download page and look for the harddrive version of the Video BIOS for your card, should be a peace of cake and safe if you know/pay attention to what you are doing. Also can you move some stuff from your system info into your signiture or something, the long left collumn almost hurts my eyes. (ive seen much worse, if yours was longer I'd fix it myself)
