The Averatec AV7170-EC1 marks the company's first foray into dual-core notebook designs. The notebook is powered by an AMD Turion 64 X2 TL-50 processor running at 1.6GHz coupled with 1GB of 533MHz DDR2 memory (expandable to 2GB). Graphics duties are handled by an NVIDIA GeForce Go 6100 GPU which powers the 17" WXGA+ AverBrite screen. Storage duties are handled by a 100GB 7200RPM hard drive and a dual-layer multi-DVD burner. Three USB 2.0 ports, one Firewire port, PCMCIA, PC Express, GbE and a 5-in-1 media reader are included.

The 15.5" x 10.9" x 1.37", 7.2 pound notebook features the Windows XP Media Center Edition operating system and has a MSRP $1,149.99. The AV7170-EC1 will initially be offered only from Costco.com (which currently lists the laptop at $999.99 with a $150 instant discount) and comes backed with a one-year limited warranty (6-month battery warranty).
