U.N.inspector
Hi Guys... I just acquired an Alienware M5500 with a Radeon X1600 MXM, I believe type II. Is this the highest card currently available for a MXM-II? U.N.inspector :)
Ice-Tea
Hi Guys... I just acquired an Alienware M5500 with a Radeon X1600 MXM, I believe type II. Is this the highest card currently available for a MXM-II? U.N.inspector :) Aren't you talking about the m5550? The answer is yes. The m5550 probably accepts Type III as well, the m5500 probably doesn't.
Guest Guest
Aren't you talking about the m5550? The answer is yes. The m5550 probably accepts Type III as well, the m5500 probably doesn't. Thank you for the info. Please excuse my ignorance. But what is restricting 5500's from taking type III? Is it just a size issue? If so, can't a consumer retrofit (customize) his/her laptop to accept type III, of course sacrifying their warranty. I mean...theirs pin modding going on and such out there... Now, If it's a voltage issue that also comes into play...then I can understand the limitation. I've read your forum info and am still alittle foggy. Thanks for listening to a noob. U.N.inspector
Ice-Tea
It's a size issue. Modding in this case would include removing the CPU socket or something of the sorts :)
