Alienware's Aurora m9700 SLI Notebook Rocks

Here is an unusual SLI setup for a laptop.

A dual (SLI) go7900 GS, at first thought a crippled go7900GTX with slow Core and Memory speeds, but after my overclocking experience of the go7900GS this might be beast if overclocked to it potential.

Normally a go7900GS has a reasonable performance with reasonable battery life, a go7900 GTX would have been a better choice to SLI or best of all a go7950 GTX as these come default with higher clock speeds but reduced battery life.

Here is a wee snippet of the review Mobility Guru has done:

Alienware is probably the most respected high end notebook manufacturer. And, as you'll see in future articles on the company's mobile computing line, it can now claim bragging rights for some very, very good lower end notebooks as well. The very cool Aurora m9700 is definitely high end. It's big, heavy and a superbly powerful game player's machine. = actually Arima W830, MXM (kinda) :)

In repsonse to a 7900 gtx 512mb cards being used in an sli laptop, the nice chaps over at www.rockdirect.com have already made one for you :)

Xtreme XSL

even better than that, they now have an Xtreme XSL Pro coming out soon which not only has dual 7950 gtx cards, but a shiny new AMD Turion X2 TL-60 2.0GHz and dual hard drives with a 20" screen (1680*1050).

The 20” WSXGA+ screen featuring rock’s revolutionary X-Glass technology is the largest currently available in a high performance gaming notebook and offers a large high definition display, great for gaming or watching TV or DVDs. AMD Turion 64 X2 mobile technology with PowerNow means that this system is quiet while idling. The mobile Turion X2 CPU has allowed the graphics accelerator power budget to be maximised, giving Xtreme SL performance where it counts most. Available with twin hard drives and RAID options for data security, this is also a serious application workhorse for 3D and CAD designers who will appreciate the NVIDIA Quadro 2500M option.

Xtreme SL Pro has it all, including WiFi, Bluetooth and a 1.3 megapixel webcam as standard. Digital TV tuner supporting recording and pausing of live TV is available as an optional extra and we'll fit it internally for you. For audiophiles there’s 5.1 sound output for external speakers plus 4 speakers built and a subwoofer for improved bass response in games.

I was lucky enough to review the original xsl machine this summer and it absolutely blew me away performance wise. It ran surprisingly quiet too.
