After hacking the INF file, I managed to load the 96.85 driver that I downloaded from the nVidia site. I can bring up the Aero desktop on my machine. When I boot up and log in, the screen flashes a few times. Things settle down and I can use the machine. After using the machine for a few minutes, the screen flashes again, but now the desktop switches from Aero to Basic. The only way to get Aero back is to reboot the machine. Any idea what is wrong?
