GlobuZ
First of all - HI !! as this is my first post here :P Let's start from the begining - two months ago I've bought Compal FL90 with 8600GT (256MB). I've installed all drivers, dedicated to this laptop, from INTEL webpage. Everything was :( Few days ago I've installed BioShock DEMO and fps was good enought, but friend told me that there is new ForceWare specially dedicated for this game. As 'orginal' one, doesn't support my moblie 8600GT, I've found this webpage and I was very happy, that I can install any ForceWare thanks to modifyied INF files :) To be 100% sure, that everything will be OK, I've download both: driver v163.44 and modifyied INF from this webpage. I've run BioShock DEMO, but fps was much lower that on previous drivers...so I've uninstalled driver v163.44 and installed INTEL ForceWare and everything was fine again...I thought it's OK, but when I've close my laptop cover and open it again...screen was still off :P What I know: - From begining, I've "do nothing" set in Power Management option, when cover is close, - When after opening cover (sometimes, [about 1 from 10 times] screen is on when I open cover!!) screen is off and if I then set laptop to standby mode (Fn+F1 in FL90) and 'wake it up' from this state, screen power on, - When I uninstall nVidia drivers (from Control Panel) and after restart have VGA mode, issue with cover doesn't happend!! - 'Orginal" INTEL drivers doesn't have INF file (or I can't find it). I supost that modifyied INF added something to my registry but I don't know what and where. I realy don't wan't to reinstall my system (Windows XP Home Edition - I know that similar issu happen on Vista, but I'm still XP :) ) due to this issue, but it's hard to live with it (after standby my WiFi connection connect again and all downloads are disconected  ). PLEASE HELP and tell me what should I make to have this issue gone  P.S. Sorry for my Engilsh - I'm from Poland
Guest Guest
Use driver cleaner 3, then install drivers. Version 165.01 has made this problem, ver 163 is ok.
GlobuZ
Use driver cleaner 3, then install drivers. Version 165.01 has made this problem, ver 163 is ok. You're right - after 163 I've try 165.01 - to increase fps in Bioshock, but as it didn't worked, I've back to INTEL drivers. I've followed your advise, Drive Cleaner 3.3 found nVidia drivers and removed them. After restart, I've installed INTEL drivers and...problem is still exist :) Can anyone help me :P ? Which registry key make such a mess ?? (Drive Cleaner didn't remove it - I think :) )

Guest 1001101
Just go to the registry (Start->Run->regedit) and delete the HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\GraphicsDrivers\LidCloseSetPower (or something like that) key (don't worry, the key is empty - it's presence just tells the drivers to use a different way to turn the display on/off when the lid is closed/opened). You will need to restart after that. This should fix the problem.
