Nihilism
I bought a laptop from Alienware for gaming recently with a GeForce GO 7900GTX. I sent it in for repair because it was not acting right at all and when I got it back today they swapped my 7900 with a Quadro FX 2500M. Again I use my laptop for gaming. I play Counter-Strike 1.6, Counter-Strike:Source, and World Of Warcraft. I know that the Quadro series is suppose to be optimized for CAD and such but I have heard some people say it out preforms the 7900 in games and some people say it is really bad for games. My question is should did I get ripped off gaming performance wise with this swap, did I get a sweet deal, or did I just get a card that is about the same? You actually got quite an expensive replacement that performs at least the same as your original 7900GTX. I believe they share the same core. FX1500M=7900GS (I have this one) FX2500M=7900GTX Good luck :-)
smax
Personally, I'd have the Quadro over the 7900.
Nihilism
Well I know that they are based on the same chip, but I have heard that the GeForce series has more compatibility with games and the drivers are optimized towards that. I have also heard that the Quadro series is for CAD work and high quality rendering. So is it the case that the Quadro will preform worse in games like Source or anything like BioShock if I wanted to try that?
smax
You shouldn't notice a difference between the two, the Quadro will work just fine.
