How do u keep ur laptop cool?

Im using the program CPUID and im getting these temps on my stock clock GPU.

Value: 55 degrees CELCIUS

MAX: 57 degrees Celcius

Those temps are when i am not playing games. I really need to cool my laptop if i want to overclock my gear but..is there a good way to prevent overheating?

Is an external laptop cooling pad good /necessary?

My laptop has a battery stand which works like most laptop coolers without fans. It promotes air circulation on the bottom of my laptop so that it doesnt pile up much.

I still feel unsafe to overclock my laptop! Can somebody tell me if 50 degrees~ without gaming is good? I need feedback for those who overclocked

Btw, im thinking of overclocking my 8400M GT GDDR3 graphics to about 600 Core/500 Memory or 600/500

I dont want my laptop to pass 70 degrees so im trying to play on the safe side here.

Those are fine. The 8XXX series can handle up to 90c before you should worry about frying. My 8600 runs at 62c normal, 79c when gaming. I use a laptop cooler, and I think it isn't necessary, but I want my laptop to live longer, so even a small drop in temp can, in the long run, lead to longer life. Btw, I think you should OC, because no offense, stock 8400 isn't very good.

i have an 8800MGTX

idle temp = 35-40 deg C

gaming temp = 57-62 deg C

i'm using a zalman notebook cooler ZM-NC-1000.

btw check under your laptops for air vents, if there are underneath then dont get a cooling mat as it will block the vents,

get a cooler like mine which blows air up into those vent, keeps it nice and cool 8-|

i have nc-1000 is does not blow air up but sucks air out, pretty good if air fan is blowing downwards

I'm getting that same cooler in a little while.

Ive overclocked my 8600m GT to Core: 680 Memory: 520 and it gets up to 80 degrees celcius when playing Crysis. Thats why I'm getting a cooler :)

How much does it drop the temps?? 10? 15? degrees?

50 degrees is very low, you could easily go up to above 70 without artefacts. Try to increase the gpus 10mhz at a time until you see artefacts,( weird stuff flimmers, black squares and such) then go back 10mhz and there you have it. Try to get the back of the laptop to be free, cools down 'bout 10degrees or more!
