Dragon Note
Hi all, first post here. I have an Dell XPS M1730. It only scores a 4.8 index in Vista 32. It is holding my system from actually being a 5.2 overall. Ram is fairly inexpensive so I would like to upgrade. Do you all have suggestions for the fastest RAM availabe for my laptop? Would just bumping to 4gigs help the number or should I just go for all new ram? Current RAM: 200pin SO DIMM SDRAM @ 667mhz PC5400 DDR2 2-GIGS Thanks in advance!! :) Edited March 11, 2008 by Dragon Note
BMWM3E30
U can't just upgrade your RAM. U have DDR2, so the socket on your motherboard is DDR2. U can't change it to DDR3, for example. All you can do is put more Gig's in, but first check if you really need it. The 4.8 score is in fact scaled on the speed of your RAM, being DDR2. So, i don't think you can upgrade that score... (Actually i tried the same thing, added 1Gb, didn't help much..)
®®®
Try figure the chipset beeing used in your DELL. Then read the specifications for the chipset and find the supported memory configuration. I bet you can use DDR2 800MHz (PC2 6400). Also while reading the specifications try to figure the memory timings supported and then shop accordingly. Dragon Note
Thanks guys. Yes, I can use PC2 6400, I am having trouble finding 4 gigs (2 x 2048) or 2 gig sticks of it... the search goes on. May have to just stick with 2 Gigs.... When I upgrade I usually try to go as far up as I can...
