Guest Andrea Judge
Hi there, first post here :) ! I just bought a new (here in Italy) HP Pavilion 9790el, featuring a GF 8600m GS with 512 Mb DDR2. I'm using 174.51 drivers and Win Vista x64. My problem is simple: I try to overclock my video card to 600/1200/460, but if I move those sliders, and save my profile, as soon as I click OK Button (just after pressing the Apply button), the sliders just return to their original positions. What's the problem? Please tell me, I'm quite noob in o'clocking hardware. Thanks to all will help me! Just say if i can offer you a beer :-)
anonymous1986
I know that most of the 170xx series drivers dont seem to allow overclocking. You could try 169.28 or one of the later 169xx series drivers. I also heard that sometimes you have to flash your bios in order to overclock but that would be more of a last resort. Try one of the 169xx series drivers first and see if you can overclock with them.
Vashts121
I don't recommend the 174.XX series. Try the 169.28 driver, it should overclock just fine and give very good performance.
Guest Andrea Judge
Thanks a lot guys. I'm downloading right now 169.28. I'll post the results. AJ
Guest Andrea Judge
Oh wait! Did I say that my PC is a laptop? ?Cause I've heard that 169.xx are just for desktop pcs! Andrea
zipper
You may have leftovers of the original drivers which can prevent overclocking. After uninstalling the old driver use driver cleaner or driver sweeper ( http://downloads.guru3d.com/Guru3D---Drive...tup)_d1655.html ) to get rid of extra stuff and then install the new driver - I had no probs to overclock 169.04 or 173.xx - 174.xx
Guest Andrea Judge
Ok, going to try that with 169.28 and that tiny prog. However, I've read somewhere that my card is kinda underclocket? Is that true? How can I remove this limitation? Where to find the BIOS update?
Guest Andrea Judge
Nope. No success with 169.28 and full remove of previous drivers. Just the same thing, as I move sliders and click 'ok' to overclock, the just return to their original positions. Also, my card's stille underclocked to 500/1000/400 and not 600/1200/460 as nVidia reports. PLEASE HELP ME I'M GETTING MAD
Guest Andrea Judge
SOLVED using 169.04 drivers. Now I can overclock without problems. +20% mean increase in performance (FSX gained 10 fps!) Temperatures are around 80° using 600/1200/460 setting Good luck!
