Guest
Hello, I downloaded and modded (with Pieter's INF) the 44.68 driver and attempted to install it on my Toshiba 5200-701 (Geforce4 460 go 32mb). It installed fine but in Hardware Options it said that it was running in PCI mode. (Does this mean it is running in PCI mode? It is an AGP card). I changed it to AGP and rebooted and it totally crashed my system. Manged to boot up again in safe mode and proceded to uninstall the driver and roll back to the standard one, 36.38. It did roll back but my games performance was much slower and I noticed that there was and added tab in the nvidia control panel that allowed the option of changing the 'clock frequencies', this option wasn't there previously to installing the 44.68 driver. I have now re-installed the 44.68 driver, but I would like to go back to my standard 36.38. So what I plan to do is uninstall the 44.68 driver and reinstall the 36.38 instead of using the roll back feature. Is it possible to uninstall the driver on a laptop?? Will the display still work?? Thanks in advance for your help, J. 8)
mobilenvidia
Uninstall drivers using Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel. This should remove the old/new driver completely, Sometimes some older settings remain (as you can see with the OC page). Odd that you would get 44.68 running in PCI mode, this does happen in 5x.xx drivers. There must be something else afoot. There can be fiddly problems with trying to update drivers with Restore CD versions of WinXP. Pieter.

®®®
It installed fine but in Hardware Options it said that it was running in PCI mode. Other users reported the same problem and if i remeber right it was solved when updating the Intel Chipset driver. Or maybe it was sth. else. I don#t remember right now. Search the forum may help. LSudlow
Your memory is good. Updating the chipset driver is the solution.
Guest Frankierom
I also have installed the 44.68 and 11.67 have found the identical problem in that the Hardware options stated it was running PCI mode. I have searched the forum but couldn't find out how others solved the problem other than your mention of updating the chipset driver. Where would I get the chipset driver update? My dell has the I815 chipset and g4 440 go. Are we talking about the Intel INF utility on Pieter's page? You assistance is greatly appreciated. Guest Frankierom
Pieter, I have downloaded the intel inf installer, but I am having difficulty understanding how to proceed to remove the PCI Mode from the gf 4 440 go hardware area of the nvidia utility screen. I have extracted the files but there are various folder most of which contain xp and I815 chipset files. I have read the instructions several times but to no avail. Can you advise how to proceed? regards, Frankierom
®®®
just install the intel inf update using the setup.exe
Guest Frankierom
Thank you for your help. It didn't appear as if the setup program was doing anything, but it was simply a matter of unchecking the manual AGP setting box. All is well now. regards, Frankierom
®®®
It didn't appear as if the setup program was doing anything, what other users report is that the update prevents a lock/bsod when manually selecting agp rate.
