Is overclocking a 8600M GT a good idea?

If I buy a laptop cooling pad, could I overclock my gpu if I keep the temperature down and is the gpu temperature the only thing I need to worry about when OCing?

Also, how far can I OC my card even with proper cooling?

My rig is a gaming laptop with the specs:

Windows vista 32bit

Intel core duo cpu 2x @ 2.6ghz

4 gigs of ram

Geforce 8600M GTX 512mb

Thanks.

overclocking 5% of the card's speed is "safe",

but each card (even if its the same type) varies on how much it can be overclocked so no two cards are going to overclock as far/much as eachother.

temps are your main concern when overclocking.

also your warranty is viod if your card breaks due to overclocking

Even if the temp is low enough (like in the 70-80) is there any other things I need to look out for when Ocing?

dont push it too far, and always do stress tests on the new clocks before declaring it stable.

there are plenty of guides on the net :)
