1920 x 1200 + Aero

I have a Go 6200 TC, it has 32MB dedicated memory and another 495MB TurboCache (at least that is what vista is telling me). As far as I can gather, it meets all the requirement to run Aero at any resolution.

let me start off by saying Aero works automagically at resolutions up 1680x1050, I don't have to change settings, I don't have to hack anything, it just works and rather well at that. However, things start getting strange when I go any further.

1) If I booted my machine with Aero on at a resolution of 1680x1050 or less and then switch to 1920x1200, Aero remains on. Everything seems normal as far as performance is concerned; it is about the same speed as it is at any other resolution. However, hardware accelerated overlays do not work. I.E. if I open a game that is not fullscreened, like chess titans, or watch a video in wmp, or watch a *fullscreened* flash video, the app just hangs. All these things work fine at 1680x1050 with Aero on and at 1920x1200 with Aero off.

2) if I startup my system at 1920x1200, the system hang a bit at the login screen(I assume I am failing some test) and then I am not allow the option to turn Aero on.

So what gives? I know the 6200 is not a champ, but I?ve seen GMA 950s and x3100s do Aero at 1920x1200. Hell I?ve seen a FX 5x00 card do Aero at 1920x1200, it was crawling but it worked, so why not my 6200?

I have tried 6 different drivers go as far back as 174.74 (which is the latest release that support my card without a modded inf) and as new as the latest 179.13(I ran driver sweeper in between installs), all the same behavior.

Any help would be great.

I really really really hate to bump a thread but I'm running out of things to try and would really love the help.

So I picked up a dock for my system and am now driving the 24' by dvi instead of VGA, this did not solve my problem, but it did provide me with new data.

First, everything works fine up to 1920 x 1080 ( instead of only 1650 x 1200 ), no muss no fuss, it just works.

Also if I start up my system at 1920 x 1200 with aero turned off, the system does not hang at all during startup, and I am allowed the option of turning aero on after login, but overlays still refuse to work.

So it looks like my problem is not vista refusing to let me use aero@1920x1200, but rather it trying to use aero@1920x1200 and failing because of the broken overlays.

So how do i fix the overlay problem? How come it works at 1920 x1080 and not 1920x1200, what happens in those last 120 pixels? Is there maybe an advanced 3D setting I should set (or unset)? could it just be that I borked my install?

suggestions are more than welcome : ).

have you updated your drivers with modified inf files from our site?

go here:

http://forums.laptopvideo2go.com/index....c=21100&hl=

download the driver and modified inf file. extract the driver to a folder. then paste the modified inf file into that same folder. when prompted to overwrite say yes. then run setup.exe

that will solve the issue.

Thanks for the reply! Yeah I always use the LV2Go infs (I'm a long time lurker), I even make it a habit to run DC.net and DS between installs. As for the dox driver, i switched to his 178.24 (v1.1) earlier today, just to see if they might help, and still no luck too speak of.

I just wish I had a reason for why this is happening, I am considering contacting Nvidia, but i don't think they are going to be all that receptive.

thanks agian.

Hey Dox,

I've been using your 178.24 v1.1 since early yesterday(even before wook linked them), I am pretty good about keeping myself up to date. Its a great driver, and I have not seen an performance lag when it came to aero, well no more then is to be expected from my little old go 6200. My problem has to do with almost every Nvidia driver I have installed to date.

basicallly it can be summed up like this:

1920x1080 + Aero = everything normal, VMR, overlays, and windowed 3D works fine

1920x1200 + Aero = Aero still work okay when I force it on, but I can't use any games, flash video at fullscreen, wmp at full screen, windows picture gallery at all.

I don't know why.
