Guest Tony
Well after months of experimenting I can conclude that modding the inf of a desktop driver is NOT the same as an actual mobility driver released by Nvidia or a laptop manufacturer. The proof is simple: Any desktop based driver, including the entire 80 series out thus far is not a complete proper mobility driver. I have a notebook with an 8800m gtx in it. When using a desktop modded driver, demos in the nvidia SDK, geometry shaders and DX10 shaders in 3d Studio Max DO NOT render. Try yourself! Ive had over 20 people with all different DX10 based mobility chips report the same thing. When using a manufacturer provided driver OR the latest Nvidia mobility (790 beta from the site) The dx10 SDK, geo shaders and DX10 max shaders work perfectly fine! So when using the desktop based drivers with a modded inf to support mobility chips, all DX10 features will not render at all. Again, ive tried this with over 23 drivers and the only ones that work are the REAL mobility ones. Try it for yourself. Use a modded inf driver on a mobility chip and try and run the nvidia smoke demo from the SDK kit. Im not saying that DX10 games wont work, im just saying that DX10 features will not render.
