I think i've experience this problem before but this time i already tried few driver ( 178.24, 185.20 & 180.84.1) and the problem is still here...

I'm using XP Sp3, the only option in power setting is "Do nothing when closing the lid" or "Standby", my laptop would go to standby if i choose the option and close the lid... but the "do nothing" option, which suppose to turn the screen off while closing doesnt work.

This is a dell inspiron 1520 and having 8600m GT.

Hope you guy can help me out.

Thanks in advance.

Have you disabled any services etc that may have controlled this?

Do you have hibernate on? I've read that on some Dells it causes your problem if it's disabled.

Did your PC come with XP or vista installed? Is there an option in the bios?

Do you have the latest (A09) bios?

Some laptops have a switch inside that disables the screen when you close the lid.

You might want to set it as a power management auto turn off or a blank screen saver.

If a switch is broken, and you don't have a secondary function key to manually switch it off, you can create a shortcut to a util like:
