I just got a GeForce 8600M GS from MacRecycling to replace a burned out Go7600 in my Alienware M5500i-R3. Everything is working great except it is running a bit hot. 66c in 2d and as high as 104c running portal at the highest settings.

I noticed two physical differences in the cards. ( See photo )

1. The GPU on the 8600 has a clear plastic sheet around it with a cutout for the actual GPU. The clear plastic sheet is hard to see in the photo.

2. The areas where the memory chips are covered by a foil shielding film. They cover the entire area and wrap around the sides of the card.

Should I keep the plastic on the GPU ?

Should I use thermal paste vs the thermal pad ?

Should I remove the foil shielding ?

Should I just put it all back together and drink a beer ?

Thanks Upgrade Gurus
