schmiki
I did some tests on my system as I didn't see any recommendation on video drivers for MSI G-series laptops. Test settings: 3DMark Vantage, everything on lowest settings, 1680x1050 video resolution (monitor's native), post-processing scale 1:2, all post-processing effects disabled. Turbo option on laptop: enabled. Results: Driver 176.88 GPU score: 4991; CPU score: 5081 (currently the WHQL factory default on MSI website) 179.28 GPU score: 5215; CPU score: 5082 179.48 GPU score: 5231; CPU score: 5121 (driver natively supports this GPU) 180.70 GPU score: 3831; CPU score: 5125 185.20 GPU score: 4244; CPU score: 5043 CPU scores show quite similar results on all drivers, but GPU scores showed a significant drop in fps after switching for 18x.x series. I could achive the best results with the 179.48 driver that also natively supports this system, so this would be my recommendation. Also World of Warcraft gained like 4-10 fps in crowded areas after switching from the factory's default driver. I hope this helps somebody. I haven't tried the Dox's optimized drivers, does anybody have some experience with those on this or similar systems?
Kum Zblj
You should try Dox's latest 182.05, then 182.08 (not Dox's) and put the results with these, and you'll see the big difference.
schmiki
Dox's latest 182.05, and 182.08 (not Dox's) added to test results. 176.88 GPU score: 4991; CPU score: 5081 (currently the WHQL factory default on MSI website) 179.28 GPU score: 5215; CPU score: 5082 179.48 GPU score: 5231; CPU score: 5121 (driver natively supports this GPU) 180.70 GPU score: 3831; CPU score: 5125 185.20 GPU score: 4244; CPU score: 5043 182.05 GPU score: 3830; CPU score: 5086 (Dox's) 182.08 GPU score: 3821; CPU score: 5062 (not Dox's) 18x series produce the worst result of all. 179.48 still owns on this lappy, rolling back to it ^^
Kum Zblj
An really unexpected outcome, I thought the Dox's will be better. Very interesting.
Guest sklchan
Hi there, Seem like the 179.48 is the only WHQL driver (the latest) that support the GX620 9600M GT. But if you still available for do the testing, can you try to test on the 185.81 which also native support for the MSI GX620 (but not WHQL sign) and compare with the previous result. I do prefer to try out all the driver but currently stuck downloading the 3dmark tools (also I only have the WXGA LCD which not really meeting the minimum requirement for the 3dmark vantage) If we refer to the Nvidia pages actually the 185.81 already included all the 185.85 goodies where improvement on certain games FPS (although no one confirm on that). So I think the 185.81 do worth a trial. Inside the 185.81 user guide also mentioning on the 179.48 (not mention about others version though) this might reflect that the 185.81 actually a better direct fix from the 179.48. msa
ok, not sure where to post this, so i'll just post it here because i have a question to the 9600m gt as well. i havent bothered about drivers and stuff for a long time now, because my system, as it is now, was running fine. it still is, but i'm still curious if there are any new drivers for my 9600m gt to install. currently i'm running the 258.96. got them from here too. so, is there any new version worth installing that will improve performance? whats the best (performance-wise) driver for this card anyway?
