Guest sandy
The ATi Mobility HD4670 must be MXM 2.1 only! Now, I'm searching for the part number of HD4670 from MSI...
Mike
Hi there, Are there some news about the HD4670 from MSI? Because I'm interessted to change my GPU from a X1800 with 256MB DDR3 VRAM to a HD4650/4670. But I'm worried about the DDR2 RAM on some Cards. It look's like, they are much slower than Cards with DDR3 VRAM. Has anybody tested the HD4650 with 1GB DDR2 VRAM on an other Notebook than an ACER? This card this Code VG.M9606.005 or VG.M9606.006 is available on http://www.acer-ersatzteile.de. This would be an interessting upgradeoption for me, when its running without problems on an FSC or Alienware Xi1546/M5700... Well the Card has the MXM-II dimensions, but whats about the VBIOS? Mike
I have found out, that mxm-upgrade offers an HD4650 in MXM Vers2.1. But i have heard about a problem with the 4GB Modbios. I dont understand why the older HD3650 is usable with 4GB of RAM an dthe HD4650 is not, but why? MfG
Guest Gary
I have found out, that mxm-upgrade offers an HD4650 in MXM Vers2.1. But i have heard about a problem with the 4GB Modbios. I dont understand why the older HD3650 is usable with 4GB of RAM an dthe HD4650 is not, but why? MfG This is probably bios issue. Only some Alienware bios support 4 GB RAM but Fujitsu has not updated Amilo bios. Graphic cards with 256 MB memory may be compatible with 4 GB RAM but cards with 512 or more memory are not. Guest Guest
Ok, it seems we cannot get a decent VGA with 4GB RAM. How about VGA 512MB combined with 3GB system RAM? Has anybody tried that? It would be a reasonable compromise. I am just thinking out loud: if there is some addressing problem that causes that 4GB (3.25GB usable, to be exact) is only usable with 256MB video memory (sum: 3.5GB), then would it not be possible that 3.00GB + 512MB work together (sum: 3.5GB)?
