PhysX menu not visible in the NVIDIA Control Panel

Hi,

For some reason I haven't seen the PhysX menu in the NVIDIA Control Panel during my recent driver updates. I remember seeing there during my Windows 7 RC use when I downloaded NVIDIA drivers from Windows Update. However, I don't remember seeing it there whenver I've used the modified INF from this site. Nowadays I always download the "all-in-one" driver package from NVIDIA website and use the modified INF together with it.

There is also some separate "NVIDIA PhysX (32-bit)" thing in my Windows' Control Panel but whenver I try to launch it, it just complains about "NvCplUI.exe" missing.

Any ideas on how to get the PhysX menu back? Could it be because of the modified INF?

I'm using Windows 7 Professional 64-bit on a Sony VAIO VGN-FZ31M with GeForce 8400M GT.

Then how come I had the menu visible in the first place then with the drivers downloaded from Windows Update?

And even with the later drivers I've downloaded, the drivers have always installed the PhysX component. It shouldn't do that if my graphics card wasn't capable of using it.

The requirements are 256MB and 32 cores IIRC so it shouldn't work with 8400M GT.

That graphics card does support physx in older drivers.

In newer drivers nvidia raised the minimum number of CUDA cpus required for physx to 32. They probably did this because with only 16 cuda cpus it probably wasn't useful offloading from the CPU, especially while rendering a game.

That's good u get the same error message as I do in Window Vista, it confirms that NVIDIA have played around with the recent drivers.

I don't think there's anything wrong with not being able to access a separate PhysX menu, as there is no reason for a separate PhysX menu because PhysX settings are now integrated into the new NVIDIA control panel.

Thanks for the information. You have any idea if the PhysX can be re-enabled even in the newer drivers with some INF modification or something?

Otherwise I think it would be wise for me to manually remove the PhysX installation package from each driver update in the future to prevent PhysX from installing if it's not really being used for anything.

You need the Physx software package to be able to run many games, that would be a very bad thing to do.
