Alienware m5500 (Uniwill 259) Black screen

Ok I have a Uniwill 259 modded with Alienware case, 8600GT, OCZ Core SSD with 2.0 Ghz Pentium M. After trying Vista I gave up. With Windows 7 I decided to give it a try. I am having a black screen after Windows splash screen (Stand VGA driver or safe mode works) directly related to EVERY Nvidia driver I could get my hands on (from 7X.XX - 19X.xx). From what it appears it's realted to an LCD recognition issue. I beleive any driver modder/editor could resolve this issue. Please read this related thread to get caught up. Others are having the same concern.

Had the same problem with the same barebone with a Quadro 770M in it.

Ditched Windows 7 partly because of this problem, but also because of poor 3D performance compared to XP.

The screen only lights up after you close the lid and open it up again, or after resume from standby. Definitely a driver issue...

Opening and closing the lid doesn't work for me. I Have tried all settings. Wonder if upgrading screen to WSXGA+ has something to do with that. dunno..........

Opening and closing the lid works for me (thankfully!). I have an Alienware Area 51 m5500 that was previously giving me the black screen after the windows is loading animation once installing Windows 7 and switching it to the "EXT VGA ON" mode (i.e., using the nVidia GeForce Go 6600 card not the onboard Intel video).

If there's a better solution, I'm open to it, but I haven't been able to install any new nVidia drivers, even with the modded INF. It gives me the error that no qualifying device is found. Granted, I could be doing something wrong.

Hope this helps someone.
