boatvan
Hi there, I just got a hand me down Alienware M5500 from a friend. I had to re-install the OS and need to find a driver for the NvIdia GeForce 8800M. Problem is, he can't remember if he installed the GS, GTS, or GTX. I cannot find a driver that works. It is running Windows XP SP3. He installed this new card back in 2009 and said he the drivers from here. No official Nvidia drivers recognize my card, and whenever I try one of the ones from here, (when I choose the INF) it says the specified file does not contain my system info. I already tried the troubleshooting tool that is available here, to no avail. This laptop is really worthless without the driver Thanks! zipper
Easy - if it's really NV ID 0609. That's GTS. Search results: http://laptopvideo2g...os=&os%5B%5D=xp
boatvan
No dice. Same "specified location does not contain information about your hardware". I am pointing it right to the inf. I am using the modded one. I'm going to just try the standard. EDIT: Standard does not work either. In my profile I guessed it was the GTS. It could be the GS or GTX. He installed the card himself a while after getting this pc. It is not the originally installed, he said in '09 he found the driver here. zipper
http://forums.laptopvideo2go.com/topic/28433-v27073-windows-xp-32bit-nvidia-quadro/ is with a quick search the latest driver with a modified inf for XP and so has support for: NVIDIA_DEV.0609.01 = "NVIDIA GeForce 8800M GTS" NVIDIA_DEV.060C.01 = "NVIDIA GeForce 8800M GTX" Check the hardware ID if it's different from these! (0609 or 060C).
boatvan
Ok, so I opened up the laptop and identified the card to be a Nvidia GeForce 8600 GT. I tried the driver from the official nvidia site to no avail. What shall I do now?
zipper
http://laptopvideo2g...os=&os%5B%5D=xp is the latest driver to support 8600M GT without using a modified inf: By using our modified inf http://forums.laptop...-nvidia-quadro/ is the latest XP driver to have the modified inf made so far.
