Gericom Geforce4 GO at 1280x854

My Notebook manufacturer (Gericom) has not released any new driver for the built in Geforce4 440 Go since more than one year (P4 Mobile, Win XP). Since the display has the quite uncommon resolution of 1280x854 I can not install the standard detonator driver. How can I modify a standard driver for Win XP that also provides 1280x854 ?

Hanno,

All my INFs have 1280x854 enabled (just confirmed on my machine)

So you should have no problem getting to that resolution.

nVidia's standard drivers don't normally support laptop resolutions (1280x854 ot 1400x1050)

For link to drivers/INFs just click link in my profile.

With my INFs it should boot to the highest resolution possible after installation.

Hope this helps,

Pieter.

Just tried your modified INF. Unfortunately it did not work. I will give you now some information about my system, maybe you know what could be wrong:

P4-M 2Ghz

Geforce4 440 GO

Intel 845 Chipset (drivers installed)

15,2" TFT 1280x854

Win XP

I tried detonator 44.68 drivers together with your 11.67 INF.

I totally disabled my Norton Internet Security (to be on the safe side)

Result: After reboot It still offers modes 800x600 and 1024x867m only whereas the new geforce control panel seems to work properly...

What can be wrong ?

If the driver has installed properly (you did remove the original INF from directory ?)

The these should be the resolutions available to you:

800x600 1024x768 1152x864 1280x720 1280x768 1280x800 1280x854

If all but the 1280x854 show up then you have an EDID problem (not uncommon) with Wide screen laptops. Not much I can do here, just try drivers as some might work.

If you only get 800x600 and 1024x768 then the driver didn't install properly.

Install driver using 'Driver update' via control panel.

Hope this helps,

Pieter.

let me tell you what I found out:

(please be informed that I have the German language version of Win Xp since I am from Austria. Translation is not always easy !)

Using originally installed driver:

When I got to display properties with right mouse click and then to settings I see

"1. (Multiple Monitors) with NVIDIA Geforce4 440 GO 64m"

--> here I can choose 800x600 or 1024x867 or 1280x854

When I switch to "2. (Standard Monitor) with NVIDIA Geforce4 440 GO 64m" I get many differernt resolutions (also my desired 1280x854). but it is not possible to apply them on my display. Obviously only available for external monitors on "video out"

Using any newer driver (including your "package" as mentioned above):

"1. (Multiple Monitors) with NVIDIA Geforce4 440 GO 64m"

--> now I can only choose between 800x600 and 1024x867

When I switch to "2. (Standard Monitor) with NVIDIA Geforce4 440 GO 64m" I get again many differernt resolutions (also my desired 1280x854) but it is not possible to apply them on my display. Obviously only available for external monitors on "video out"

I did not work to choose these "Standard Monitor" settings for my notebook display. How can I activate these settings for my notebook display.

What is your idea ??

Thanks a lot

Hanno

I have a feeling that you have a problem with the EDID being read wrong.

It's a common problem and I don't know of a fix for it.

Have you tried 56.56, the newer 5x.xx drivers did fix the EDID problem on some of the Dell machines.

Pieter,

what does EDID mean ? Is this something related to the INFs ?

I recently tried the 56.55 which was a total disaster -> 16 colours @ 640x480 was the only option afterwards.

Nevertheless I got an e-mail from the Support Center yesterday. I was waiting for more than one week ! The said they will find out which newer driver is working on my machine. we will see.....

Maybe I can also discuss with them the EDID issue, so please tell me what is behind that.

Thanks

Hanno

Hanno,

EDID is data stored in the monitor that tells the video card what it's specs are.

Highest resolution and default refresh rate etc etc.

LCD screeens work a little differently and don't have EDID data stored in them.

It's somewhere else, in nVidia drivers or Windows monitor settings.

Now with certain laptops (ie yours) the driver gets confused and reads the data wrong.

Usually it doesn't allow the maximum resolution to be reached (very frustrating)

Now your situation is entirly different, you can only get 2 resolutions (a similar thing with a Dell and a Samsung screen)

There is no known cure :) , the best I can suggest is try a 4x.xx driver.

My condolences,

Pieter

hello, i have no solution, but a question. What is the driver version of the original driver which worked with the 1280x854 resolution. And what is the name of your Gericom Laptop.

It is a Gericom Hollywood (15,2") and the version of the original and so far only working driver is the following:

DriverVer = 11/08/2002, 3.2.2.0

They sell now also an upgraded version of the "Hollywood" called "Hollywood Centrino". It has got the GeforceFX and of course all the Centrino stuff. Everything else is equal to mine. I tried to install the original Detonator for this laptop which is provided by Gericom --> DriverVer = 05/21/2003, 4.4.2.2

Same Problem as before. Only two resolutions are available. The driver itself is working properly. There is only the resolution issue.

Any idea ?

Have a look, which is your DEV ID and SUBSYS ID?.

Try a file compare of the 2 drivers (especially the inf) and report back what the differneces are. But as pIETER said, it's hoechstwahrscheinlich ein EDID problem.

I now post parts of the INFs where I found DEV and SUBSYS. I do not know what is exactly behind that.

This is from the newer driver (44.22) which is NOT working properly:

[NVIDIA.Mfg]

%NVIDIA_NV17.DEV_0176.1% = nv4_8060_MAP464, PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0176&SUBSYS_80601071

%NVIDIA_NV17.DEV_0176.2% = nv4_1, PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0176&SUBSYS_86401071

%NVIDIA_NV17.DEV_0176.3% = nv4_SSFactor, PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0176&SUBSYS_103013BD

%NVIDIA_NV17.DEV_0179.1% = nv4, PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0179&SUBSYS_103013BD

%NVIDIA_NV17.DEV_0179.2% = nv4_8060_MAP464, PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0179&SUBSYS_80601071

%NVIDIA_NV17.DEV_0179.3% = nv4_8060_MAP464, PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0179&SUBSYS_86401071

%NVIDIA_NV17.DEV_0179.4% = nv4_8060_MAP464, PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0179&SUBSYS_E0031631

%NVIDIA_NV34.DEV_0324.1% = nv4_8060_MAP464, PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0324&SUBSYS_81601071

%NVIDIA_NV34.DEV_0328.1% = nv4_8060_MAP464, PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0328&SUBSYS_80601071

%NVIDIA_NV34.DEV_0328.2% = nv4_8060_MAP464, PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0328&SUBSYS_82601071

This is from the original driver (32.20) which is the only working one:

[NVidia.Mfg]

%NVidia.Nv17M.3.1% = nv4_8060_MAP464, PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0176&SUBSYS_80601071

%NVidia.Nv17M.3.2% = nv4_1, PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0176&SUBSYS_86401071

%NVidia.Nv17M.3.3% = nv4, PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0176&SUBSYS_103013BD

%NVidia.Nv17M.5.1% = nv4, PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0179&SUBSYS_103013BD

%NVidia.Nv17M.5.2% = nv4_8060_MAP464, PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0179&SUBSYS_80601071

%NVidia.Nv17M.5.3% = nv4_8060_MAP464, PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0179&SUBSYS_86401071

Do you see anything that could be the problem ?

Hanno, i have the infs already on my HD.

Mal sehen.

EDIT

attachment sindg gerade deaktiviert, deshalb manuell

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Environment]

"Devmgr_show_details"="1" (Zeichenfolge)

So, das meldet er nun unter details:

PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0179&SUBSYS_80601071&REV_A3\4&2EEAE0A0&0&0008

Die DEV ist offensichtlich die 0179. Kannst du irgendeine Besonderheit in der SUBSYS erkennen ?

Hi,

First, thanks for this website, it's the holy grail for gamers on laptop!

I have a Gericom Hollywood 8060 with an NVidia GeForce 440Go 64M on WinXP and since i couldn't play the new Far Cry Game nor the new Splinter Cell, i was looking for other drivers.

First i downloaded the 56.63 msi release, installed following the instructions, rebooted and there was a 800x600 screen with 4bits color quality. No other option was available.

Second, i tried the 44.68 (older) with the 440Go drivers for Dell Mobile. It "could" work but the screen is stretched cause the Hollywood has a widescreen.

I have no idea! I hope you can help me out of this, i have no competencies in programming nor in graphic cards, so i hope you'll be able to fix the problem so i can be up-to-date.

Thanks for this website, wonderfooool!

other ids

PCI\VEN_10E&DEV0179&SUBSYS_80601071&REV_A3

PCI\VEN_10E&DEV0179&SUBSYS_80601071

PCI\VEN_10E&DEV0179&CC_030000

PCI\VEN_10E&DEV0179&CC_0300

the list below

PCI\VEN_10E&DEV0179&REV_A3

PCI\VEN_10E&CC_030000

PCI\VEN_10E&CC_0300

PCI\CC_030000

PCI\CC_0300

Ich hoffe dass sie es korrigieren werden (und können). Gericom machen gute Computer aber wenn du mal etwas zu fragen hast, kannst du Monate warten oder kriegst du keine Antwort.

Danke viel mals

To telll the truth there is one report that the BlackBar still exists. But they might be working with your resolution problems. Give it a try here http://forums.laptopvideo2go.com/index....view=getnewpost

I had exactly the same problem as you with the Geforce4 Go 440 on a Mitac laptop, with only the original drivers allowing 1280x854. After trying a whole load of drivers I finally found these ones which worked:

http://download.laptopvideo2go.com/nvidia/40series/4718.exe

if those don't word try the modified inf here:

http://laptopvideo2go.com/infs/45series/4718inf/nv4_disp.inf

Hope they work for you!
