Guest Scotty
I was lucky enough to be selected to beta test EQ2. I have a Dell Inspiron 8500, P4, 2 GHz, 512 RAM, with the above video card. I have not been able to get past the character creation part of the game. The following happens: For about 3-5 min it runs normally. Then the colors change. Almost like a color negative. In the opening screen (tower with the skull) water covers the ground (like a flood would look). Depending on how low/high I set the graphics in "options," The sky goes from blue to pastell stripes. ~10 min, the music stops, but the UI still works. At ~15 min, crash. ("Crash" means that the computer freezes and does not respond. I have to disconnect its power to restart it. No BSoD tho) When I go into character creation, Similar colors, the character (to be a pretty awesome looking bald ogre eventually) can be seen in outline form only. I updated the driver from the Dell website. It was dated Aug 03. Any recommendations from what is at this site that can get me playing? Thanks!! Bill
Try some 4x.xx drivers from Pieter's mod page, the 53 drivers might work well too. What driver are you currently using? I have had good luck with the 44.03 drivers most of the time, try the reccomended drivers on Pieters page, especially the 44.68 as it might be better for you in that game. Bill P.S. You are talking about EverQuest 2 right?
Guest Scotty
Currently running 4487. Yes, EverQuest2. I'll play around. Thanks, Bill!
Guest big_gie
Problems like "works for 10 minutes then freezes" could come from a heat problem. Try to monitor the temperature. My I8500 tends to be pretty hot in hard uses. Look at the great tool Dell Inspiron 8x00 fan control utility to monitor the temperature. Teraphy
Does the beta test recommend a driver version?
Guest Scotty
It only recommends driver cards which support pixel shading. My card is supposed to, but the latest Dell update from their website is >1 year old. Not sure why this particular card has fallen off the nVidia radar. The 5X.XX and 6X.XX drivers apparently are not meant for this card. <_<
