Guest - D.Com -
Hi all, Something I've not completely understood about overclocking is with regards to the GPU clock and memory frequencies. According to the FAQ thread regarding default frequencies, my Quadro4 700 GPU is 175MHz, and the memory is at 400MHz. Is there supposed to be a relationship between the 175 and 400, like some sort of multiplier (eg. 175 x 2.28 = 400)? My current overclocked frequencies I've got are GPU clock at 214MHz and memory at 495MHz. That's as far as I got before artifacts started kicking in. Should I still use that same multiplier (2.28 as above), which would mean my memory frequency should be 488MHz, or do any relationship between the GPU clock and memory frequencies go out the window when overclocking. Scratching my head, - D.Com -
Bill
I don't think there is any relationship, if that overclock speed you just mentioned is the highest you can go, then stick with it I guess. You need to get some 3Dmark 2001 SE scores on that. Bill
Guest - D.Com -
Using 214/495, I got 3DMark2001SE scores of 7198 and 7159 back in June, and more recently 6764 after I installed WinXP SP2. All the scores were with the v42.57 Dell drivers and Pieter's INF. Cheers,
Guest - D.Com -
Hi again, Did some benchmarks last night to compare default clocks with overclocking, also compared v42.57 with v61.77 drivers, and also to see if installing DX9.0c made a difference. All of these scores have been obtained on a freshly-formatted Win XP Pro, no other apps or fat registry can stop me now! So here goes... all scores are 3dMark01SE. v42.57 @ 176/400 with DX8.1 => 6781 v42.57 @ 176/400 with DX9.0c => 6733 v42.57 @ 214/490 with DX8.1 => 7244 v42.57 @ 214/495 with DX8.1 => 7295 v42.57 @ 214/495 with DX9.0c => 7239 v61.77 @ 176/400 with DX8.1 => 6265 v61.77 @ 214/495 with DX8.1 => 6636 v61.77 @ 214/495 with DX9.0c => 6593 Pieter, you reckon you could post those on the Performance page? Whichever lines are relevant anyway. Cheers,
Guest - D.Com -
One last 3DMark01SE benchmark I've done as I formatted my laptop again to rid myself of DX9.0c... As much as I'd like to keep the following settings, I dunno if it's safe to leave the GPU and memory frequencies at this level: v42.57 @ 215/500 with DX8.1 => 7390 I8kFanGUI seemed to do a good job of not letting either the CPU or GPU temps get above 60C, but I haven't got the same assurances over whether the video memory can handle it... mobilenvidia
No offence D.Com but I have to limit the table to top 3 scorers or the page would get out of hand. Although a very impressive score for a 1Ghz P-III-M. I get 2500 with my GF2go. I would be very careful overclocking full stop, laptops are not ideal for getting rid of heat. ®®®
v42.57 @ 176/400 with DX8.1 => 6781v42.57 @ 176/400 with DX9.0c => 6733 v42.57 @ 214/490 with DX8.1 => 7244 v42.57 @ 214/495 with DX8.1 => 7295 v42.57 @ 214/495 with DX9.0c => 7239 v61.77 @ 176/400 with DX8.1 => 6265 v61.77 @ 214/495 with DX8.1 => 6636 v61.77 @ 214/495 with DX9.0c => 6593 That's intereesting and some thorough testing you did :) , thanks. I hope people don't try revert back to dx8.1 :P because of your results :)
Guest - D.Com -
Yeah I figured that as I had a clean system I wanted to get a few questions answered - for me sticking with the old v42.57 drivers and DX8.1 seems to pay off. Now I've installed SP1 for WinXP (and every update short of SP2), as well as all my apps, I decided to do another benchmark... v42.57 @ 215/500 with DX8.1 => 6812 Suffice to say, I'm not impressed! Compare this to the 'clean' system result I got a few days ago... v42.57 @ 215/500 with DX8.1 => 7390 ... and compare that to before I formatted my laptop, when I gave SP2 for WinXP a go, as well as having apps installed... (taken August 26) v42.57 @ 214/495 with DX9.0b => 6764 Seems like once I have my laptop fully kitted out with Windows patches, MS Office 2003, Firefox and all other apps, the system loses a few hundred points - there's not much between today's 6812 and pre-format score of 6764, despite me only using SP1 and DX8.1 now, as opposed to SP2 and DX9.0c back then in August. The only other benchmark scores are from back in June, when I forst installed 3DMark01SE... v42.57 @ 214/495 with DX9.0b => 7198 and 7159 These tests were done back to back (just to make sure... it was my first time!), with DX9.0b installed, and well before Microsoft decided to give Windows XP an SP2 "look and feel", whether SP2 is installed or not. I have that deal now - where I refuse to install SP2 after testing it last month, yet my WinXP has changed to reflect the SP2 "flavour". I'm wondering if that's had an adverse effect on my 3DMark scores, or if there's something else helping me lose almost 400 points between last June and now, despite having a slightly higher clocked GPU now!
